I watched Braelyn sleep next to me. While the pain medicine helped with my pain, it didn’t knock me out.

I was too wound up for it to do that. Fury kept sweeping through me.

Someone tried to kill us. I could’ve lost her in the blink of an eye.

Regardless of who was responsible, I wanted them found, and I’d make them regret it.

Betty excused herself so Wrath could come in. She knew we had club business to discuss. Both Rage and Wrath were next to my bed, eyeing me. Neither of them was happy. A thought came to mind before I could ask them what the next steps would be.

“Shit, I need to call Bull and let him know what happened. If I don’t, he’ll lose his shit.”

“I know. There is one saving grace in her being hurt. She’ll need to take some days off. He can’t say no to that. We’ll be able to keep her away from them and in a secure location,” I said, thinking aloud.

“True. But I don’t think her apartment is that location. She needs to be surrounded by walls and have more eyes on her. She needs to come to the Pagan compound,” Rage demanded.

I agreed that being in a biker compound was the way to go, but I disagreed with which one.

“I agree she needs those walls. However, it’s not unknown that she’s tied to your club.

It could bring heat and danger to your compound.

On the other hand, we’ve hidden that I’m a biker and where I’m from.

I could take her to Hunters Creek, and she’d be even more protected.

Plus, it makes sense that she comes there, regardless. ”

“Regardless?” Rage asked.

“Yeah, she’s my old lady. I know I should’ve told you what I intended, but it happened unexpectedly.

As my old lady, she’ll be living with me on the compound.

I have a house she needs to ensure meets her standards and, if so, decorate to her satisfaction.

If she wants it bigger, we’ll start the addition.

If she hates it, then we’ll build a new one.

Her work situation, being on the rocks, solved part of her relocation issue.

While recovering and hiding, she can see what’s available around the area for work. ”

“I’ve got to ask. You two are sure of this? It’s not just a case of proximity, is it?” Wrath asked.

“I’m as sure of this as you are of your feelings for Jalisa.

I’ve been drawn to Braelyn since the first time we met.

I kept it under wraps. Then, after I saw her with Chaos, I almost didn’t pursue her, but Bull pushed me to tell her.

When this situation came up, it seemed like fate. She’s the woman for me.”

“As long as you treat her like it seems you already are, risking your life to save hers, I can’t complain. You know we don’t cheat on our old ladies. They’re sacred. And so are our children. Braelyn is like my Betty, and they deserve happiness,” Rage said gruffly.

“I swear I’ll protect and love her. And there will be no cheating.”

“Alright, then, I guess we’ll have to accept it. As much as we’d love to have her at our compound, I can’t argue with your logic on yours being a better choice. The issue will be to convince her to go. She can be stubborn,” Wrath told me.

“I’ll find a way, don’t you worry,” I assured them.

“Until then, don’t worry about being exposed here. We have our people scattered not only on this floor but outside. Whoever is after you would be crazy to try anything here,” Wrath added.

“Thanks, man,” I told him, holding out my hand. He shook it, followed by Rage.

We’d been talking in hushed tones to prevent waking Brae. A soft knock on the door made us glance at it, and I called out as quietly as I could, “Come in.”

The door opened, and I saw Bull and Payne. They didn’t call out a greeting, so someone must’ve warned them to be quiet. They quietly came to my bed. Wrath and Rage shook their hands.

“We’ll leave you to talk—no need to get Battleax after us,” Wrath said with a roll of his eyes. I chuckled. Once they were gone, I addressed my president and enforcer.

“I’m damn glad to see you, but I wish you hadn’t come all this way. Wrath’s guys seem to have the hospital covered,” I told them this as we shook hands.

“There’s no way we’d stay away when one of us is almost killed. I’m glad to see you’re in better shape than we feared. How’s your woman?” Bull asked.

He was checking out Brae’s face and arms. There were minor nicks and bruises all over them, like mine. Again, I was aware that a miracle had occurred.

“She’s bruised, sore, and has some cuts, but it seems we avoided major injuries.”

“Good, glad to hear it. I know you’re tired, and we won’t stay long, but can you tell us what happened and what your thoughts are on it?” Bull asked, but I knew it was a demand.

I went through it as concisely as possible and filled them in on the trouble we had with her boss and Hendrix the prior day. Wait, no, that was two days ago now. It was after midnight. They were shaking their heads by the time I finished.

“Loki, you know these situations with men preoccupied with our women rarely end peacefully. They seem to fall into the obsessed category more often than not. I’m not saying her boss is one of those, but we have to assume.

And you putting his bodyguard on his ass had to have made him an adversary, at the least,” Payne warned me.

“I know it. Brae wants to hope Eli won’t go that far, but I’m not as hopeful.”

“Brae is leaning toward thinking it could be him or Hendrix,” her soft voice said. I glanced over to find her eyes open. She was watching us. I leaned over and kissed her.

“I’m sorry, babe. We tried not to wake you. I thought we were talking softly enough.”

“It wasn’t your voices. Hi, guys, I’m glad to see you, but I hate that you came all this way for this. Honey, I need to get up. I need to use the bathroom,” she addressed the last to me.

“You can’t go alone. You might fall. I don’t know if they want you to walk or not. Let me call the nurse. Can you hold it for a couple of minutes?” I questioned.

I’d take her, but I was worried she might need to stay in bed. I wasn’t a doctor, so I had no clue. When she nodded, I reached to press the call light button. Payne stopped me.

“I’ll go see if I can ask someone. It’ll probably be faster than calling,” Payne said before disappearing.

“I’m happy to see you, sweetheart. I don’t want you to worry about anything. You and Loki concentrate on healing. The rest of us will ensure your safety. With Crusher and Outlaw working on this, we should know soon who was responsible,” Bull assured her.

“Thanks, Bull. I hope we do find out. I’m over this crap. It was bad enough having to wonder if Cedric Alves was after me. Now, there could be more. Loki, I swear my life isn’t generally like this.”

“I know it’s not.”

Suddenly, we were invaded by none other than Momma Jean, aka Battleax to me.

She got Brae up and to the bathroom without a fuss.

As we waited for her to return, I found myself itching to get my hands on the person responsible.

I couldn’t wait to get out of bed and back to work.

We held off talking about it until the nurse was done and gone.
