“I fucking can’t believe that, Loki. Your colors can provide you with some protection when others know which club you’re with. They would know that to fuck with you means your club will come after them. To go without is more dangerous. And to take off your colors. Most bikers would rather die.”
“I know, Pres, and I don’t want you to think for a second that I don’t love and honor my colors.
I wear them with absolute fucking pride.
And I would’ve never said a situation would make me remove them.
But I can’t let her be without a bodyguard.
There’s no goddamn way I want it to be Chaos.
I don’t know if I have a chance with her.
There’s been no time to discuss that. But if I even want to get the opportunity to talk to her about it, I’ve got to be close, and he’s got to be out of the way.
I know this can mean a fine or worse. If that’s what you feel is necessary, I’ll accept the consequences.
But I can’t leave her exposed like this. I can’t.”
“Loki, that sounds like the words of a man who knows a woman is his, and he’ll do anything to keep her safe, even lay down his life.
It’s the only relationship, along with your kids and grandkids, that rivals being with your club.
Club and family are always first. Sometimes, you’ll have to let the club take the lead for good reasons, but if you balance that with your woman and kids, you’ll always be the winner.
“I’m not thrilled about the no cut and your exposure, but I know you gotta do it.
Just watch your damn six at all times. I’m hoping she feels what you feel for her or can soon get there.
Good luck, and keep me updated. I want to know what’s happening every step of the way.
In the meantime, let Wrath know we’ll have Outlaw reach out to Crusher to see what he can do to help with whatever digging that needs to be done. ”
I thanked him and promised to give him an update at least every other day.
Ending the call had been a relief. I stopped and grabbed my gear from my bike, then returned to her place to let them know Bull was updated and his offer of Outlaw.
After I explained the plan, and they agreed to it, they stayed, and we had a simple lunch of sandwiches and chips.
Well, the men did. The women fixed a salad.
Details were ironed out. Once they were done and lunch was over, they excused themselves to head back to Eatonton.
That left Braelyn and me to settle in. It was uneasy, but eventually, we began to relax and ordered food for dinner.
She excused herself to bed early to work on some files before sleeping.
I stayed on the couch and watched a television show before showering and hitting the hay. We had a packed day the following day.
And that new day had started. We’d gotten up and gotten ourselves prepared for the day.
The first stop would be to meet with her boss.
He’d contacted her last night and set up a meeting at nine o’clock in his office.
He was aware she’d be bringing someone with her.
I knew he had to be wondering who and what was up.
Leaving without my cut made me feel weird and exposed.
Another thing that didn’t feel right was leaving my bike there.
I didn’t want her on my bike if she was in danger or the two of us separated.
We went in her car until I had time to assess things.
At least it wasn’t a tiny clown car. She drove one with lots of muscle to it.
I hadn’t checked it out when I’d seen it before, though it was a beautiful cage.
When we got to it, I inspected the exterior.
She watched me. Braelyn didn’t drive a typical chick’s vehicle.
No, she went for speed, and the Dodge Challenger SRT she drove had that in spades.
I’d checked out a Dodge Charger before. The Challenger was roomier than its cousin, the Charger.
It had an eight-speed automatic transmission. I glanced over at her.
“Is it a V-6 or V-8?”
“What do you take me for? A pussy? It’s V-8, of course. Why? Think it’s too much for a woman to handle?” she taunted.
“It depends on the woman. Some, yeah, I’d say it was. For you and others I know, not at all. Your chariot awaits, milady,” I told her, holding open the driver’s door and sweeping my arm for her to get in.
“Aren’t you pulling the man card and insisting on driving?”
“Why? Does Chaos? Would I love to drive it? Sure, if you’d allow me. Do I have to? Not if you don’t want me to. The exception is if we’re in a situation that I feel is dangerous and I need to get you to safety, then I’ll drive, no matter what.”
“If that’s the situation, then I won’t argue. And if you’re a good boy, I might let you drive it without me being in danger.” She smirked.
I couldn’t help it. I had to laugh and spout off, “I’m not good. I’m bad, very bad, but in a fantastic way. And I’m not a boy. Not one part of me is.”
It came out with a sexual ring to it. I watched her cheeks turn pink, and I swore heat flared in her mesmerizing eyes before she shook her head and rolled them.
“I don’t like braggarts,” she snipped back as she slid into her seat.
Before I closed her door, I leaned down and winked at her. “I don’t brag, just stating a fact.”
I closed the door and swore I felt her gaze burning into me as I rounded the vehicle.
I made sure to scan as I did. I might be flirting with her, but I wasn’t dropping my guard.
By the time I got in, she had it started.
The roar was a thing of beauty. She grinned.
I barely got my seatbelt on before she shot out of the parking lot.
“Damn, watch it, speedy. Do you want to get a ticket?” I teased.
“It wouldn’t be the first time, but I’ll be careful. Does it make you nervous?”
“I’ll be honest. Whenever I’m not in control of something going fast, it makes me a bit edgy. It has nothing to do with you. I’d be the same if it were a man behind the wheel,” I confessed.
She eased up on the gas. “I was merely teasing you. I didn’t mean to make you anxious. I’m an excellent driver. I took a defensive driving course a few years back. It was amazing. I learned so much.”
The drive to her work consisted of discussing the course and her favorite vehicles.
I remained alert, but I enjoyed having a conversation with her.
I cataloged the surroundings for exposure points when we arrived at her workplace.
It appeared that regular staff parked in the parking lot reserved for them.
Since she worked with the DA, their offices were in the courthouse, with judges and other officials.
She bypassed the open parking lot and went to an entrance to what turned out to be underground parking.
A security guard was standing there. She rolled down her window and smiled at him.
He was a fit guy in his late forties, I would guess. He smiled at her.
“Good morning, Braelyn.”
“Good morning, Liam. Hope you had a wonderful weekend.”
“I did. And you?”
“It was less hectic, but I needed the break after last week.”
“I heard you and the boss were gone for a whole week. I hope you got whatever it was figured out.” He paused and gave me the once-over. Braelyn immediately apologized.
“Oh, sorry, how rude. Yes, I have a guest, as you can see. You’ll be seeing a lot of him. I’ll get them to put him in the system upstairs. You should have him on the list for today. His name is Alexander Lane, but he likes to be called Loki. It’s a nickname,” she smoothly explained.
“Hello,” I said, leaning over to reach across her and present my hand. Liam took it. His grip was firm, and mine was equally so. When he let go, he glanced at the tablet in his hand.
“It’s always a pleasure to meet anyone that Braelyn knows. Here it is. You said I’d be seeing more of him. May I ask why?”
I answered. We might as well start with him explaining our cover story.
“I plan to be with her as much as humanly possible. I finally told her that I couldn’t do this long-distance thing anymore.
I need to be with her. Being apart was killing me.
We’ve been dating for months, and I’ve had enough of the lonely nights and waiting to grab a day here and there to be with her.
If you had a woman like her, would you want to be in another state? ”
Liam shook his head. “No, I wouldn’t want to be away from her either. I hate having to spend even one night away from my wife. I had no idea you were seeing someone, Braelyn, but I’m glad to meet you, Loki. Treat her right, and we’ll get along fine.”
“I’ll treat her like a queen,” I assured him.
“You know how I am, Liam. And with Loki and me being so far apart, I wasn’t sure if we’d go the distance, so I didn’t say anything. I guess I’ll find out if I can stand him long-term or not.” She laughed.
It was smart. She could then explain where I had disappeared to after this was over.
Well, I have news. She was stuck with me if things went as I hoped they would.
Liam chuckled and waved us through. As she found a parking spot, I recalled last night.
I’d thought over what Bull said on our call.
The more I did, the better I felt about what I wanted.
All I had to do was get Braelyn to feel the same.
After she parked, I got out and opened her door, then escorted her toward the elevator. When we got to it, I noted it required a badge to access it. I was happy with this underground parking. Hopefully, the inside would be even more secure.
