Lincoln would have recognized them anywhere though, the shorter of the two, the spitting image of the love of his life.
Even from the inside of the car where he was, Lincoln could spot the anxious tension in the way they stood. And the hold they had on each other. Linc studied Luca’s parents, and all he saw were two people who had clearly missed their child. That finally spurred him to take his seat belt off, and turning in his seat to face Luca, preparing to wake him up. And hoping for the best outcome for all of them. Hopefully, one that ended with his omega happy in his arms.
Linc gently pushed Luca’s hair back from his sleeping face. Before pulling out his handkerchief and wiping his omega’s drool.
The second action had Luca coming awake slowly. His man used the back of his hand to wipe at the spot Lincoln had just cleaned before his eyes even opened.
“Guess I was drooling again, huh,” a small smile appeared on Luca’s mouth, his movements still groggy from sleep.
“Mmmm…” Linc replied, his attention completely on Luca.
“I guess we’re here then,” Luca said, his eyes locked on Linc.
“Yup.”
That got a smile from Luca. “So maybe we should get out of the car.”
Luca said and gave him a duh look, like Lincoln was being slow.
“Can we talk first?” Linc said before Luca could turn away from him and reach for the door.
“Sure, babe,” Luca turned his head to face Linc again. “What’s up?”
“You know I said that I would do everything in my power to make you happy for as long as we both lived?”
“I do,” Luca smiled, his eyes softened, his hands lifted to touch Linc on his cheek. “I do, love, and you have.”
“Let’s save the ‘I do’s’ for when we’re in front of a judge, huh,” Linc tried for lightness, but he knew it was only his way of stalling.
“Why, Mr. Wentworth, I do believe that sounds something like a proposal,” Luca quipped.
“Trust me, when I do propose, even people in space will be aware,” Linc replied.
Luca chuckled, “Got it, babe, you’re gonna go all out.”
Linc couldn’t bring himself to break a smile at Luca’s teasing.
His omega must have read his anxiety because he stopped his teasing, his face suddenly serious, his hand on Linc’s face moved so he was stroking Lincoln’s jaw with his thumb, “Hey what’s up, babe, you have a serious look on your face?”
“I just want you to know I only did this because I think…” Linc shook his head. “No. Not think, I know… I see how much you miss them, even though you try to hide it.”
“Them who?” Luca asked, his eyebrows furrowing.
“Your parents,” Linc said, biting his lips as he waited for a response.
Luca sighed, his shoulders slumped dejectedly. He sat back in his seat, leaning his head back, staring into space. He released another sigh, then turned his head to meet Linc’s gaze again, “I do, I really do.” Luca tried shrugging it off, but the tightness in his brow belied his words. “But it is, what it is.”
“What if it wasn’t?” Linc asked. “What if I told you that they miss you as much as you miss them?”
Luca looked away from Linc briefly before meeting his eyes again, his love sucked in a breath, “I miss them so much.”
Luca’s hand went to his chest and he pressed down like he was trying to keep the pain in. Linc grabbed his hand and held it in both of his.
“What if I told you that you didn’t have to anymore,” Linc asked.
“What do you mean?”
Linc nodded towards the windshield, and Luca’s eyes followed.
