A stepping stone towards getting what he wanted. And when he was no longer of use, he’d been discarded.
Luca sighed, “It was good to see you Frankie.” Luca turned around and made to enter the building when he felt his upper arm in a vice like grip.
“Don’t walk away from me, Luca, it’s not nice to turn your back on someone in the middle of a conversation. Or didn’t your fancy how-to-behave school teach you that?” Frankie bit out, squeezing tighter on Luca’s arm with every word.
“You’re hurting me,” Luca cried. He hated the way his voice trembled. But Luca’s heart was beating so fast with fear and nerves he felt sick.
Frankie’s grip on his arms loosened, “That was never my intention, baby. Don’t walk away from me. I don’t like that.”
Luca was terrified at the way Frankie’s expression and voice changed with every sentence; from sweet, to warning in one breath.
“I came to see you and our baby, make sure everything was okay with the two of you. I can’t wait to meet the little guy, maybe take him out for some daddy, baby time.” Frankie’s smile was smug.
If Frankie hadn’t had a hold on him Luca swore he would have collapsed. Luca couldn’t think of anything worse than Frankie alone with his baby. But he also knew that the law would be on his side. He couldn’t stop an alpha father from seeing his child.
His brain was thinking of places he could run to that Frankie could never find them.
“It’s not your child,” Luca blurted.
Frankie growled and got in Luca’s face, “Wanna lie to me and say it’s the new guy’s baby? Don’t bother. I know when you met, know where you’ve been.”
“You’re… you’ve been following me,” Luca’s voice sounded shrill even to his ears.
“I thought you would run home to papa and daddy, figured they’d pay to get rid of me. But this is better, way better. I see the way he looks at you, all in love and shit. Bet he’ll pay double time to get rid of me and have me sign away all rights to the little spawn. Either way, I get paid for wasting all that time with your frigid ass.”
Luca gasped like he’d been struck, and he could feel the fight drain from his body. Luca realized that Frankie had never even loved him. He’d thought Frankie had at least cared for him, but now he saw he’d been nothing more than a target, a mark. Holding on to something that had clearly never existed.
Everything, everything he’d sacrificed had been for nothing.
The fight left his body. Just as he was about to give up and slump to the ground, an arm curved around his body from behind. Making him startle and turn. When he saw who it was, Luca grabbed hold of Lincoln. Holding on for dear life.
“If you know what’s best for you, I suggest you step back and release my omega,” Lincoln said in the coldest voice Luca had ever heard from the alpha.

Linc
Linc was already on his way home when he’d gotten a phone call from Brian saying that Luca had left the penthouse. Linc wasn’t keeping tabs on Luca but he was concerned about the omega’s health. So he had all his staff at home vigilant.
Luca hadn’t really left the apartment, so when Brian called him to inform him that he was going out and without the chauffeur, he’d called Luca to make sure everything was fine but hadn’t gotten an answer.
Linc wasn’t sure why he’d decided to leave work early, especially since he’d been doing his best to avoid Luca. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to spend time with Luca. It was that he wanted it more than he should. But today for some reason, something had been pushing him to go home. Not one to ignore his instincts, he wrapped things up at the office and was rushing home.
So, when Brian had called him again saying that Luca was outside the building having what looked like a heated conversation with someone, Linc’s spider senses had started going off. Linc knew from Luca that he didn’t have many friends, one really, Riley. And since Riley didn’t match the description of the man given, but Lincoln recognized the man described, he’d floored it, making it home in record time.
Linc hadn’t even bothered driving into the underground garage, instead, he’d parked on the street, and he wasn’t even sure if he’d done so properly. But the sight of Frankie, and he recognized the man. The sight of the man touching Luca had Lincoln so mad he could commit murder.
Luca must not have heard him walk up, but Linc clearly heard the words coming out of Frankie’s vile mouth. And the way his omega’s usually healthy skin lost all color and he stumbled back only to be reached for roughly by the asshole.
Lincoln wasn’t sorry to admit that he had done a background check on the man. From the moment he had decided, known, or realized––whatever one wanted to call it, that Luca was his. His to love, his to protect, his to cherish. Lincoln needed to know what exactly they were up against when the time came for him to claim not only his omega but his child.
And seeing Frankie now was no surprise to him if half of what he’d found out about the man was the truth. Lincoln had looked into all the options before him, and he was ready to do battle for his family.
And they were his family, he just hadn’t claimed them yet.
The more obviously pregnant Luca looked, the more Linc wanted to wrap him up in cotton wool and protect him. Mark him, let the world know who he belonged to. Linc wanted it so no one would be in any doubt that Luca in all his perfection was his.
Luca was glowing. Frankly, Lincoln had never understood what the pregnancy glow meant till he saw Luca ripen with child. Sometimes Lincoln felt like a lecherous perv whenever he imagined the filthy things he could to the omega. But then he also imagined just lying in bed, his hands on Luca’s bump feeling the life within.
