“You know I thought the whole stubbornness thing was cute, now I’m rethinking my assessment,” Linc shared.
“Whatever, just take me to bed please,” Luca said.
“Now there’s a proposition and a half,” Linc snorted, unable to hide his amusement.
“What?” Luca’s face scrunched up in confusion. Making him look adorable.
“You said,” Linc paused and shook his head. “Oh never mind.”
He turned and walked in the direction of the stairs and Luca settled back into his arms. Without the immediate rush to get Luca to the hospital, Linc was able to appreciate their positions; the feel of Luca in his arms, the omega’s head on his heart.
Suddenly, he was tempted to take Luca to his room instead of the guest suite he was staying in. Where he could keep an eye on the omega all night. But he wasn’t sure he had a right to do so. Neither did he think that Luca would appreciate the gesture.
The omega was a little spitfire. But somehow Linc had a feeling he wouldn’t appreciate the term.
He walked Luca up the stairs to his room. He placed Luca in bed gently and stepped back watching as the omega maneuvered himself under his duvet.
When he was apparently comfortable, his back against the pillows, he looked up at Linc, “Thank you. You didn’t have to pick me up, but thank you.”
“You’re welcome. But I’d still like to go on the record and say you look—” Linc eyed Luca’s face looking for a nicer way to say the man looked like hell.
“You already said, and it’s noted for the record. So maybe if you left and let me rest, I can be back to my not so death-warmed-up self,” Luca snarked. Clearly offended by Lincoln’s earlier comment.
Linc put his hands in his pockets and bit his lips to stop the laugh that was threatening to come out at the omega’s pissy reply.
“I’ll leave you to the resting then.”
All he got was a hmmph from Luca.
“Didn’t your papa teach you never to tell a hormonal omega he looks crappy?” Luca muttered under his breath, but Linc still caught it.
“What was that?” Linc asked, pausing and turning on his way to the door.
“I said good night,” Luca replied, meeting Linc’s gaze head on—challenging.
“Right,” Linc grinned. “And might I add, you look completely uncrappy.”
The twinkle in Luca’s eyes and the omega biting his lips, clearly holding back a laugh at being called out, had Linc grinning. He would have continued the banter if Luca didn’t look utterly exhausted.
“Night Luca. Thank you for the lovely dinner. See you in the morning, hopefully looking better or it’ll be the hospital for you.” Linc lost his smile, his eyes never leaving Luca’s, his voice stern, making sure Luca knew was serious.

Luca
Luca awakened and immediately doubled over, his eyes watering, his breath coming out in harsh pants. He tried leaning back on the pillow but grunted in pain at the movement. It felt like he was being pulled apart from the inside.
Luca tried his best to breathe through it, in case it was simply a case of a charley horse but even as he tried straightening his legs, an involuntary groan escaped his lips and he stopped all movement
No, no, no this couldn’t be happening. His baby.
He must have screamed because the next moment his door was thrown wide, and a shirtless Lincoln stood in the doorway, hair tousled, eyes wide.
Luca licked his very dry lips and opened his mouth. “Help me please,” he sobbed, but it came out choked, unable to hold back the tears.
Linc appeared at his bedside, his eyes frantic. “What, what’s wrong Luca? You’re scaring me.”
Luca felt nauseated and was trying his best to keep calm but between the cramping in his stomach and the panic in his mind, it was a losing battle.
