“How was your day?” Linc asked. Luca waited for Linc to take his suit jacket off and toss it aside. When Linc sat back, Luca did too, this time, using Linc as his back rest.

“Oh not much, shopping for baby stuff. Babies need a lot of stuff, did you know?”

Linc laughed, “I’m sure they do, and I’m sure between you and my papa you’ll buy out a whole baby store.”

“I am so not as bad as Jules,” Luca chuckled. “I swear, the nursery over there is coming along faster than ours.”

“You don’t mind that papa has a nursery at his house?” Lincoln glanced down at him as he asked.

“I love it, feels like he’s my papa too. I know it’s what Daddy would have done if…” Luca trailed off, the thought of his parent making his chest ache.

“How was your day?” Luca asked, changing the subject.

“Babe, you know you can call them, I’m sure they’re dying to hear from you,” Linc began as he had been doing recently.

“Let’s not talk about it, babe, please tell me about your day,” Luca insisted.

Truth was, he did want to see his parents but they’d disowned him when he left with Frankie and sure, Frankie was gone, but he was embarrassed and ashamed. Plus, he knew how much he’d hurt them, not just by leaving, but telling them he wished they were dead when they cut him off.

“I’ll let it go for now, but we will talk about this because I see how much it hurts you not seeing them.”

Luca sighed, what could he do?

“Okay, okay. My day was excellent, actually,” Lincoln replied. “I have a surprise for you.”

“You do?” Luca sat up. “Please tell me you didn’t clear out the stuffed toys section of another store. I don’t think any kids needs that many stuffed animals.”

Linc pinched him playfully, “Nothing is too good for our little one. But no, that’s not it.”

Luca loved how Linc called the baby theirs. He never ever said his baby or the baby. It was always our baby.

“Okay then, what did you get? I didn’t see anything in your hands when you came in.”

Lincoln stretched towards his jacket and pulled out a brown envelope. Instead of handing it to Luca though, Linc leaned back and looked Luca in the eye steadily, but the hand Linc rubbed at the back of his neck betrayed his nervousness.

“Is everything okay?” Luca asked, his eyes narrowing in confusion. A sliver of worry crawling up his spine.

He braced himself for whatever Lincoln had to say, but Luca realized he wasn’t waiting for the other shoe to drop. It was probably reckless of him, especially after what Frankie had taught him. But as worried as he was, it wasn’t about them and their relationship.

“I trust you, Lincoln Wentworth,” Luca said softly. “With everything I am, I trust your love.”

Linc let out a breath and handed the envelope to him without a word.

Luca opened the envelope slowly and when he read the top of the document, his heart stopped. He immediately looked at the bottom and when he spotted Frankie’s signature— notarized and everything—he dropped the document carefully on the glass table in front of him, and flung himself into Linc’s arms, kissing every inch of his face he could get to.

“You’re not mad?” Linc asked, a slow smile spreading across his face.

“I love you,” Luca blurted. Then froze immediately as he realized what he said.

He tried moving back to his seat but it wasn’t as easy with his bump getting bigger, less so, when Linc locked him in place.

Luca tried looking away but Linc used his free hand to turn Luca’s face to meet his.

“I love you too, baby. More than I can express. I love you, and I love our son or daughter.”

Luca sighed and slumped into Linc’s body, relieved. They said stuff about mine and Linc had said over and over he wasn’t letting Luca go. But they hadn’t said the words, till now.

“So he signed it…just like that?” Luca said.
