Luca glanced up at him, and tried for a smile, but he was sure it was more of grimace. He so owed Lincoln an apology for the assumptions the doctor had made, and the censure he’d received for Luca’s poor choices. He didn’t deserve to be berated because Luca couldn’t take care of himself.

He reached for Lincoln’s hand and without a second thought Linc wrapped his larger hand around Luca’s. Luca managed a small smile at how small his hands felt in Lincoln’s steady grip.

“Thank you so much for your help. Ever since I found out I was pregnant, everything has felt so surreal. Just having you here, has kept me grounded, and the panic at bay.”

“I’m glad that having me here helped. There’s nowhere else I would have been,” Lincoln said. Luca could hear the sincerity in his words, and saw it in his eyes too.

“You’ll never know how much.” Luca bit his lip and looked away. How did you tell someone they saved your life, and that without them you weren’t sure what choices you may have made? “I’m sorry the doctor blamed—”

“It’s not your fault what he thinks. Besides I did claim to be your fiancé and what kind of fiancé doesn’t make sure the soon to be father of his child is well taken care of?”

Luca smiled at that, “Thank you, Lincoln, for everything.”

“How about we get you out of here and go home, huh? And then I can convince you to stop worrying about keeping your job, and every other thought that’s running through your mind and causing you stress.” Lincoln squeezed Luca’s hand and he couldn’t help but look at where their hands were joined.

He stared at their joined hands for a moment, then looked back at Lincoln, “Let’s go home.”

Luca knew he should be worried at how easy it was thinking of the penthouse as home but that would be a problem for another day.

Linc

Convincing Luca to take it easy was easier said than done. Linc could tell Luca was overcompensating, trying to be useful so Linc didn’t kick him out or something equally as ludicrous.

Everything was a battle of wills, not that Linc minded, he could freely admit that he liked that Luca wasn’t with him for what he could get. Even though he knew the omega had come to his home with just the clothes on his back.

Linc had to remind himself that Luca wasn’t with him. But his brain seemed to forget the little detail more and more.

On their return from the hospital Linc had called his personal shopper to acquire a new wardrobe for Luca. During their get to know each other session at the hospital Linc had learned Luca didn’t really have a favorite color. Instead he favored neutrals, darks and earth tones.

He’d also told the doorman of his building to let the shopper in to get Luca’s sizes, before they returned; that explanation hadn’t gone down well.

“But I can’t let—” Luca had looked around the walk-in. “You can’t do this, Linc… it’s not right, it’s totally wrong— it’s too much.”

Lincoln hadn’t heard a word past the omega saying his name. So far Luca had gone out of his way not to say Lincoln’s name. At least that was what it had felt like. But hearing it from his mouth had Lincoln imagining Luca breathing it out as Lincoln’s cock slid into his body.

The lines had blurred since they returned from the hospital... oh, who was he kidding, the lines had blurred from the moment he’d brought Luca into his home. From the moment he’d seen fit to decide this was a man he could take to meet his papa, the lines had blurred.

“Are you sure I look okay? I don’t want your papa to,” Luca wiped his hands up and down the dark green skinny jeans he had on. At least Lincoln thought they were jeans. Whatever they were, they molded to Luca’s body to perfection.

“Lincoln,” Luca called.

“Huh, what?” Linc asked, glancing at Luca briefly then back on the road.

“I said, what if he doesn’t like me?” Luca’s voice trailed off.

Linc took his eyes off the road for a second and was about to tease Luca until he caught the vulnerable glint in the omega’s eyes right before he looked away. And noticed Luca’s legs were tapping a mile a minute.

“Of course he will, you both have a lot in common. I bet you hit it off completely.”

The tapping stopped and Linc could feel Luca’s eyes on him, “You think so?”

“I know so,” Lincoln reassured.

“What about the, you know...” Luca fidgeted, “baby.” He whispered like there was someone else in the car that could hear them.

“Trust me, that will give you points in your favor.”
