Story: Killian De Luca
Fifty-Nine
Killian
Malcom and I are in his car driving to my daughter.
Luna.
I didn’t bring my car here, instead I had a driver take me to the graveyard because I didn’t think I’d stay long.
But I also didn’t think Malcom would so easily let me see my daughter. I would have understood if he didn’t let me see her at all.
I’m scared shitless to meet her.
I’ve never seen her before.
I don’t know how I’ll react when I see her.
“Tell me about her,” I say to Malcolm, hoping that will just distract me.
Malcom smiles while driving. “She is the sweetest little girl ever. She has the purest soul and is always smiling. She has the best laugh and will end up making you laugh with her. You can never stay mad at her. She’s my mini-Reign. Sometimes I think that Reign was put inside her when she passed.”
“How were the three years with her?”
Malcom chuckles softly. “They were an experience, that’s for sure. She reminds me of Reign a lot. You’ll be able to see a glimpse of Reign in her as a child. It was hard to act as a mom and dad to her because like you said, we were just grandparents. We aren’t going to be here forever, and we can’t keep up with her because she’s super active and a little all over the place.”
“What kind of stuff does she like to do? Tell me more. I want to know everything about her.”
Malcom smiles at me. “She likes to sing. She is always singing when she is coloring or eating, all day long. She is also energetic and will keep you on your feet, so you have to have your full attention on her,” he explains, reminding me of Reign. “She has Reign’s beautiful blue eyes, thank God. She is a mini version of Reign. If you were to put baby Reign next to Luna, you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference. She has a huge smile on her face all the time. And her hugs are the best. They always make you feel better. She loves saying ‘I love you’ which I can’t help but smile over.” Malcom’s smile drops. “Sometimes it’s hard because of how similar she looks to Reign. Of course, there are days where it’s hard and Lia and me cry when looking at her. But we love her. We always will.”
Reign’s heart beats against my chest hard as if she just knows how much I’ll end up loving her. “She sounds amazing.”
“She is Killian.”
The rest of the drive is spent with Malcom telling me more things about Luna while I listen with a smile on my face.
When we are in front of the front door, my hands start sweating and I swear I feel like I’m going to have a panic attack.
“What’s her full name?”
“Luna Reign De Luca.” Malcom says as he unlocks the front door.
Luna Reign De Luca.
God, she sounds perfect.
I’m surprised that Malcom kept my name but I’m so happy he did because she has some part of me.
Malcom and I walk inside the house and as I look around, I notice nothing much has changed.
It feels weird but also kind of good being back here since this house just holds some sort of positivity.
“Luna!” Malcom yells before closing the door.
Reign’s heart beats faster.
Thump Thump
Thump Thump
Thump Thump
“Papa!” I hear a little girl yell and I swear my hands start shaking as the laughter comes closer.
“Luna, not so fast!” I hear a familiar voice yell.
A little girl comes out from the corner and her smile widens when she sees Malcolm.
She has long dark brown hair, just like Reign, the biggest blue eyes I’ve ever seen and then her smile.
Her goddamn smile, she is Reign’s twin.
No doubt.
She literally looks like a mini-Reign.
Luna is wearing a pink dress with her hair down and a big wide smile on her face. As I look at her, Reign’s heart goes crazy inside my chest, like she fucking knows.
Luna Reign De Luca.
“Papa,” she cheers when she knocks into Malcolm's leg and hugs him.
“You’re here.” I turn my head and see Kyra, looking like she’s about to cry.
“Kyra,” I state and smile at her softly.
“You came back,” she says with a sad smile.
I nod my head. “I did.” I look down at Luna who is now looking at me with those big blue fucking eyes.
“Luna, this is Killian De Luca,” Malcom says, kneeling to her level.
“Hi,” she says with a smile. “I’m Luna. Wait! You have the same name as me.”
I kneel down to her level and look at Malcolm. He nods his head and gives me an encouraging smile. “That’s because I’m your dad.”
Fuck.
I said it.
She furrows her eyes, confused and then tilts her head. She looks up at Malcom for confirmation.
I’m not going to just grab Luna and take her with me now that I met her. I’m going to be staying in the guest house while getting to know Luna and getting closer to her. I don’t want to take her away from her home or grandparents and what she’s used to.
But eventually I will be taking her with me back to Italy. I have a bedroom set-up for her when she’s ready.
Over the past year I’ve changed a lot.
I’ve kicked my dad out and now he lives in one of his other estates. When I kicked him out, I redesigned and renovated everything.
It’s not the same as it was before.
“This is your dad, Luna. He’s going to be staying with us for a little while so he can get to know how amazing you are,” Malcom explains to Luna.
Luna looks at Malcom before looking at me.
Her eyes gloss over before she smiles softly at me. She walks closer before wrapping her tiny arms around me.
I tense up and look at Malcom who just smiles and nods his head at me softly.
I slowly wrap my arms around her and start crying quietly.
“Don’t cry, I’m here now,” Luna whispers in my ear but that just makes me want to cry more. “I’m not going to leave you. I promise.” Her hand touches Reign’s heart beating hard against my chest.
Like she fucking knows how close her mom is to her.
“I’ll take care of you, Luna. I promise. I’ll make your mom proud.”
