Story: Killian De Luca
Five
Killian
I rest against my Bugatti as I watch the warehouse go up in flames.
The orange and red mixing together makes the blood in my body warm. I love the way fire looks, so pretty you want to hold it in your hands, but you also don’t want to get burned.
Everyone has their weapon or specialty in the organized crime scene. My mom’s is knives, my dad’s is fire and various torture methods, and Thalia’s is stiletto heels and knives. She likes stabbing her sharp heels into anyone who poses a threat.
I got my love for fire from my dad.
It’s ironic how it’s bad for me like how most things are.
I control my breathing and ignore the erratic beating of my heart as I walk towards the building on fire.
I cover my mouth with my jacket and walk in. I look around for her as I try to ignore the burning sensation surrounding my heart.
My dad said that Reign Pierce, the Bulgarian Princess, was having a meeting here and I’m supposed to be saving her from a mission that I manipulated.
Nothing a little fire can’t destroy.
My dad had a mole working for Malcom and he told us everything we needed to know about what was happening.
I move closer to the crates and see a body leaning against one, struggling to hold her head up.
Reign Pierce.
The girl I met under the stars.
Reign trembles on the floor before looking up at me. Blue eyes stare up at me and she whispers the word, “Help.”
I tilt my head while looking down at her, all helpless and in need of saving from a prince.
Too bad she got the villain.
Her eyes close and I’m pretty sure she fainted.
I lean down and pick her up, bridal style. I go back out the way I came while controlling my breathing and ignoring the burn.
I walk all the way towards my car parked on the side of the road and rest her on the grass. I lean against my car and stare down at her, admiring her features but I wish she could open her eyes to let me see those blues again.
Reign looks more mature than she did when I was fourteen at the gala when I first saw her. Her hair is long and dark. Her cheeks are round making her have that young face but not so round to the point where she doesn’t have a nice jawline. Her lips, plumped and pink, make me wish I could see what they look like when she’s on her knees begging for my dick.
Reign’s breathing steadies out and she starts to slowly wake up. Her eyes flutter open and she squints before looking around slowly and sitting up.
“Where am I?” she coughs out, her voice a little raspy.
“Safe. Out of the fire,” I say, still not taking my eyes off of her.
She looks up at me and furrows her eyebrows. “What? No, I could have gotten out on my own,” she says and stands up too quickly to where she limps and almost falls.
I catch her by the arms, her face close to mine. Her lip’s part but she still looks pissed that I saved her.
“From what I saw a few minutes ago, it didn’t seem like it.”
She gets out of my arms and steadies herself on her own. “Who do you think you are?”
“I think I just saved your life.” Reign glares at me with those beautiful blues. “Be grateful because I could have just left you to die in there.”
“I had everything under control.”
“Not from where I’m standing,” I say, making Reign look behind me and at my car. Black paint with a custom blue paint on the sides, mirror caps, and the grill. “If I didn’t save you, you would have been dead. You should be thanking me.” I lean off my car and unlock it.
“Like I’ll be thanking you anytime soon.”
I furrow my eyebrows at her. “You have a comeback for every little thing someone says?”
“Not my fault my Mama raised me to stand up for myself.”
I roll my eyes and turn to my car. “Get in.”
“I don’t know who you are. I won’t get in a car with someone I don’t know.” I turn to look at her.
“Reign Pierce, right?” I ask.
Reign furrows her eyebrows and nods. “Yes. How do you know that? Who are you?”
“Killian.” I open the door. “Now get in and I’ll explain more on the way.”
Reign hesitantly gets in the car. I close the door after her and get in the driver's seat. I start up the car making the engine roar to life.
I pull onto the road and drive towards her estate.
“Killian. Killian De Luca?”
I look at Reign and see recognition finally taking over her face as she studies me.
“Yes.” I look back on the road.
“Why are you here?”
“I need your dad’s help.”
“For what?”
“To kill my dad.”
Reign doesn’t say anything which makes me look at her.
She looks innocent sitting there wide eyed, her eyes matching the interior of the car, while wondering why I would want to kill my dad when in reality I’m out to get hers.
