“I’m not hungry,” I answered.
He moved closer, making me bump into the door. He leaned forward and pressed his lips on my collar bone. Ijerked, rattling the door behind me. He chuckled, breath puffing against my skin. “I think you are hungry. Not for food, though.”
His words filled my veins with ice. “Don’t fuck with me,Jameson.”
He pulled back to stare down at me. “I’m not fucking with you. Just stating what you’re too damn stubborn to admit.”
“You wish.”
“Enough,” Louie snapped, startling us both.
Jamie pushed off the door and took my bag from my hand. Right away, he began digging through it. He pulled out the fake ID and passport, reading over the alias’s information. He pulled out the phone next and tossed it to me.
“Call your little team,” he said. “Tell them that we’ll drop you off in a couple hours.”
“Or you could just let me leave,” I grumbled.
His expression turned cold. “No. She was our baby, too, Maura. Revenge is not only yours.” He walked away and tossed the bag on the dresser.
I stormed further into the room. “So, what? You’re going to help?”
“Yes,” Louie replied from where he sat on the foot of the bed. He ran his fingers through his blond locks tiredly. “We want to help.”
A part of me wanted to be petty and deny them like they had tried to deny me. Then I thought back to how excited they'd been to become fathers. No matter how hurt and angry we were with each other, I couldn’t do that to them. Their souls deserved some peace, too.
“Fine.” I walked over to the dresser and grabbed my bag. “I’m taking a shower,” I announced and headed for the bathroom. I was still in my handkerchief dress and smelled of sweat and alcohol. As I went to close the bathroom door behind me, I noticed the lock was broken.
Bastards.I growled on the inside and slammed the door closed.
CHAPTER 35
Jamie and Louie insisted on driving me back to the cabin—the place where we were to all regroup if anything were to happen. Dean and Asher were already waiting outside on the porch as Jamie pulled his car up the dirt drive. I hopped out and they both eyed me, checking for any injuries no doubt.
When I had texted them, explaining briefly what had happened after we'd separated, they hadn't been happy, especially Dean. He disliked the idea of Jamie and Louie being here.
My goons finished looking me over and shifted hard stares at Jamie and Louie. I took the steps leading up to the porch two at a time and the cabin door opened. Brenna walked out with a Glock in her hand.
She looked me up and down. “You okay?”
“Just peachy,” I grumbled and looked at Dean. “Did you move things around?” The cabin had four bedrooms. Brenna and I had had our own rooms while Dean and Asher had shared a room and Finn and Vincent had shared the last. Because the guys didn’t trust Jamie and Louie and felt Brenna and I were most likely to be taken,we were not to be alone. Finn had moved into Brenna’s room because that was who she was most comfortable with. Dean had moved his stuff into mine and Asher had moved in with Vincent, leaving an available room for Jamie and Louie to share.
“Yup,” Dean responded without taking his eyes from Jamie and Louie, who were making their way up the steps.
“Finn made lunch. Let’s go eat,” Brenna said, hooking her arm through mine, and pulled me inside.
She went to close the front door behind us, but I caught it, leaving it open an inch. I gave her a look that said that I wasn’t dumb and leaned my ear close to the door, to hear what my goons were up to.
“You got something to say?” Jamie asked. His tone alone told me that he was looking down his nose at my goons.
Brenna scooched close, trying to listen with me.
“Just trying to figure out why you’re here,” Dean replied in a bored and unintimidated voice.
“We’re here to help,” Louie said.
“She doesn’t need your help,” Asher snapped.
“No, she doesn’t,” Louie said, and I could hear his annoyance. “But we’re here anyway.”
