“What are you going to do in the meantime?”
He shrugged. “I’ll either take The T or use a rideshare.”
An idea popped into my head. “I’ve got an SUV you can borrow until you get your car fixed.”
“I can’t use your car,” he argued.
“Why not? It’s just sitting in the garage.”
“You have an extra vehicle you don’t use?”
I didn’t plan on mentioning the Cadillac Escalade had been Melinda’s vehicle. It wasn’t as though I was keeping it around because it held sentimental value. Rather, it was a great second car to have, especially when we headed to the mountains to go skiing. But since he asked, I felt as though I should give him an answer. “It was my wife’s, and I don’t use it often.”
“Oh ... Are you sure you’re okay with me borrowing it?”
“Absolutely. Let me go grab the key.”
Once I pulled the spare key out of the drawer, I nodded my head toward the garage, and Declan followed me.
“That’s quite a bit bigger than Betsy,” he stated.
I looked over at the white SUV. “Is that okay?”
“Yeah, I can handle big equipment.” He smirked.
“I’m sure you can.” I laughed. “You want to check it out?”
He took the key from my outstretched hand and opened the door. “Seriously, this is really nice of you. I’m going to owe you big time.”
“We can work something out later.”
He grinned. “If you’re asking for sexual favors because you’re helping me?—”
My eyes widened as I shook my head. “No. That’s not what I’m saying.”
He barked out a laugh. “I was going to say that sounded like a good deal to me.”
“You’re too much.” I chuckled.
“You like it.”
“I do,” I admitted.
He slid into the driver’s seat and pressed the button to start the engine. “It starts on the first try? That’s going to take some getting used to.”
“I think that’s something you’ll adjust to quickly,” I teased.
“Probably.” He looked at the time on the display. “I hope the tow truck gets here soon. I didn’t mean to keep you up this late.”
“I don’t mind. If you want to take off, I can give the driver the address for the repair shop.”
“You’re okay with that?”
“I wouldn’t have offered if I wasn’t. That way, you can go home and get some sleep.” By letting me deal with the tow truck, he’d get home about thirty minutes sooner than he would if he waited for it.
“Okay. Here’s the key.” He took the key to his car off his key ring and handed it over before leaning forward to press a soft kiss to my lips. “Thank you.”
“You’re welcome.” I took a step back so he could close the door.
