“You’ve got a point there. It definitely keeps me busy, but I suppose it’s a small price to pay for all this space.”
“The joys of being a homeowner.”
He took a sip of beer. “Speaking of homes, do you ever envision filling one with a family of your own someday?”
His question caught me off guard, but I rolled with it. “Hmm, sometimes I do. It’s definitely something I’ve thought about, but it all depends on finding the right partner and being in the right place in life. Since I just became an attorney, I want to focus on my career for now.”
Sean nodded. “Yeah, it’s a big decision. When I got my first job, we already had Ryan, and Melinda was pregnant with Morgan. It was tough. Rough on her too, since she was home with them by herself while I worked a lot of late nights.”
“You still work long hours though, so that doesn’t change?”
“It all depends on your caseload.”
“True.” I bit into the greasy goodness. “I guess we’ll see. If it works out, it works out.”
The front door opened suddenly, and I heard a female’s voice call out, “Dad?”
Sean’s eyes widened as he looked over at me. “In the living room, honey.”
Morgan rounded the corner and smiled. “I thought that was your beater out front, Declan. What are you doing here?”
“I … ah …” I couldn’t find the words.
“He offered to help me pack, unlike you,” Sean stated.
“I told you you should have hired someone to do that. Or did you hire Declan?”
“Like I said, he offered to help, but why are you here?” He stood and hugged her.
“I’m going to this Roaring 20s party on Saturday and came to get some of Mom’s jewelry.”
“You know she wanted you to have it all.”
“I know.” She shrugged slightly. “I’ll be up in your room getting it.”
“You’re not going to stay and help us pack?” Sean asked. “Moving day is Saturday.”
Morgan balked. “Help pack? Yeah, no. Have fun with that.”
She turned and walked up the stairs, I asked Sean in a low voice, “Should I leave?”
“No, but maybe we should get to packing.”

Morgan left notlong after she stopped by, but Declan and I spent a couple hours packing up my home office. I didn’t want the movers messing with my files and the other things I had in there. Besides, it would ensure everything stayed organized until I was able to set up my office in my new place.
“What’s next?” Declan asked as he stacked the last box on top of the others near the door.
“I think I’m going to call it a night.” I stretched my arms over my head, my sweater rising slightly to reveal part of my stomach. “This old man needs a break.”
He let his gaze travel up and down my body. “You look like you’re doing just fine.”
Having a guy half my age compliment me was a boost to my ego, and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t enjoy him checking me out. It gave me an idea.
“I think I’m going to relax in my hot tub for a bit. Do you want to join me?”
