“Okay, sweetheart. Love you.”
“Love you too.”
I hung up and walked toward where Sam and I kept our alcohol. Not that the conversation with my mom was bad, but I really wanted to drink. Except as I reached for the Tito’s, I realized I didn’t want to drink alone. I sent Fallon a text.
Want to grab a drink?
I went to my room to change out of my button-up and slacks. Fallon responded, as I slipped on a pair of jeans.
Yeah, got the approval. Where?
IDK. Either Chrome or Flanagan’s I guess
Is Sam working?
Yeah
Then let’s do Flanagan’s unless you’re looking to hook up tonight
Flanagan’s is fine
Ok. We’ll pick you up in 30
After I got ready, I waited another five minutes and Fallon texted he was downstairs. Grabbing my keys, wallet, and phone, I headed out to meet him. Rhett stood by the open back door of the black SUV, dressed in his Secret Service suit.
“How’s it going?” I asked him.
“Good, Dec. You?”
“No complaints. Thanks for letting your husband come out last minute.”
“Do you really think I could stop him?”
I snorted a laugh and slid in next to Fallon in the back seat. “No, but I’d bet you two would have fun if you tried.”
“Stop flirting with my husband,” Fallon teased playfully.
“Aw come on. You know he only has eyes for you.”
“I do know that.” Fallon smirked.
Fallon talked about a few cases he was working on before the SUV pulled up outside Flanagan’s. After Rhett and his guys did their sweep of the bar, Rhett opened the door, and Fallon and I slid out of the vehicle. We made our way inside, where Sam was busy mixing drinks and serving customers. She looked up as we approached, a welcoming smile lighting up her face.
“Hey, boys.” She wiped her hands on a towel. “What can I get you?”
Fallon ordered a beer, and I hesitated for a moment before replying, “A vodka soda for me, thanks.”
Once she handed them over, Fallon and I went to the table Rhett had snagged for us and we settled in.
“So, how’s Ashford, Nolan & Torrance?” Fallon asked, taking a sip of his beer.
I took a gulp of my drink. I had been hoping we would avoid details about my office life. “It’s good.”
Fallon arched a brow. “Good? That’s all you’ve got?”
I hesitated, unsure of how much to reveal. But then, I figured what the hell, Fallon was one of my closest friends.
“It’s Sean,” I confessed quietly. “Things between us have become ... complicated.”
