“The mole,” I said. “We need to do something. They’re the only one who can help us now.”

“But we don’t know who they are. Somehow, they managed to slip through again.”

“Then we need to set up a trap.”

“We already tried that, and it didn’t work out the way we wanted it to.”

I raked my hand through my hair. “Then we should set a double trap, or we need to get smarter about it. What do you think Santino intends to do with Luca?”

“I’m guessing he knows how much Luca means to you. You’ve spent a whole lot of time with him. Someone must’ve told Santino about it. He’s probably going to make some demands in exchange for Luca’s life.”

“Like my territory?”

“I don’t know.” Rafael shrugged.

“And he’ll kill Luca anyway. No, we can’t wait for that. We can’t wait for his offer.” I chewed on the inside of my cheek as I tried to focus.

But it was hard not to think about Luca right now.

Where was he? Was he hurt? What were they doing to him? Did he think that I’d abandoned him and that he was going to die alone?

I took a deep, shuddery breath.

“We’re going to pretend we found him,” I said.

“What?”

“We need to pretend we know exactly where Luca is. Who says we don’t have our own mole? Someone who’s been undercover for a very long time and without any contact with us?

“But since this is an emergency, we reached out, and they told us where Luca is. Once Santino’s mole finds out about it, and if they can’t verify what we’re saying, they’ll want to warn their boss. Except, this time, we need to make sure we actually catch them.”

“Let’s do it,” Rafael said. “This place is like a fortress. It’s hard to even get a phone signal down here. Only the rooms at the back have better reception.”

“Perfect. Tell everyone to get inside because we have a plan,” I said. “Tell them we’re going to war. You should give a speech, and you can explain that I’m not there because I’m devastated over Luca. But that you’re all going to get him back for me. Convince them you know exactly where Santino is. The mole will have to slip away to warn their boss. And I’ll be waiting for them.”

Rafael nodded and hurried out of the room. Before the door closed behind him, I could hear him shouting for everyone to gather.

I slipped out of the room next, pulling out my gun, and then I disappeared into the shadows. The mole wouldn’t see me coming.

But once I had them, they were going to tell me everything, and they’d help me find their boss and Luca.

I leaned my back against the wall.

It wasn’t long until I heard quick footsteps coming closer.

A man scurried past me, but before he could get too far away, I jumped out of the shadows.

“Don’t move!” I yelled, pointing my gun at him.

“Ma’am?” he said. “It’s just me. Ethan.”

“Well, hello there, Ethan.” I hit the back of his head with the butt of my gun, and he crumpled to the floor.
