“I can handle him. Just get a nice suit that fits him.”

Rafael hurried away, and I waited in the hallway until he returned. He had a big box in his hands and I took it from him with a smile.

“Now make that reservation.” A smile spread across my lips.

He inclined his head, and I strode to Luca’s room.

As soon as Luca saw me, his brow furrowed, his gaze on the box. I put the box down on his bed.

“Happy birthday,” I said.

The guards shifted closer, their hands close to their guns as I stepped forward and pulled Luca into a hug. Luca’s whole body went stiff, but then he hugged me back.

I pressed my lips to his cheek, and when I pulled away, he was looking at me in surprise, his eyes wide.

“We’re going out to celebrate,” I said, pointing at the box. “Put on that suit.”

“Out?” he asked, incredulity written all over his face.

“Yeah, but you need to be on your best behavior.”

His eyes narrowed at me with wariness, but he nodded. “Okay.”

He opened the box, and I headed for the door.

“I’ll be waiting outside. Come out when you’re ready.” I didn’t want to get too distracted watching him change.

Once he was ready, plenty of guards surrounded us, and we all headed to the garage where cars were waiting for us.

We ended up with a really nice table on the terrace of my favorite restaurant. The view of the city was magnificent.

I ordered a whole bunch of things, and when all the food was on the table, Luca stared at it as if he couldn’t believe what was actually happening.

“You can pick anything you want,” I said. “If you don’t like anything here, just say so, and we’ll order something else.”

“Um, no. It’s fine. I just... I don’t know what to choose.” His eyes met mine.

“How about something you know you like and then you try something you haven’t had before?”

“Okay.” A smile stretched across his lips.

After we finished, I watched the shock in Luca’s eyes when a big chocolate cake was brought to us.

“I didn’t really know what kind of cake you preferred, and I didn’t want to ruin the surprise, so I picked chocolate,” I said.

“I don’t know either.” His brow furrowed.

“Then try it.” I cut a slice and got some onto a fork. I slowly and carefully extended my hand toward him. “Open your mouth.”

He did, and when his mouth closed around the fork, his eyes landed on mine.

A shot of heat spread through me.

“So? What do you think?” I asked. “Do you like it?”

He nodded. “Love it.”

A small smile stretched across my lips. “This one’s actually my favorite.”
