Chapter 16

I’D JUST FINISHED MYbreakfast when the alarms started blaring. Everyone immediately rushed to get their weapons, and I drew my gun out.

My pulse sped up.

What the hell was going on? Maybe it was just an error in the system.

I spotted Rafael and raced to him.

“We’re under attack!” he yelled. “We need to get you out of here!”

“Who the fuck is attacking us? How?”

“I don’t have time to explain. The car is waiting for you! You need to get to the garage before the enemy infiltrates this floor! Come on!”

I broke into a run, and then stopped.

“Luca!” I met Rafael’s gaze. “Where is he?”

“I don’t know. His guards must’ve taken him out already.”

“I need to make sure,” I said. “You go. I’ll be right there.”

“Valentina, you can’t!”

“That was an order!” I snapped.

He mumbled something under his breath that I didn’t hear.

Probably a curse.

I raced to Luca’s room.

Rafael was probably right. The guards should’ve taken Luca to safety. But I had to make sure.

When I rushed into the room, I couldn’t see anyone.

The bathroom door was closed. That seemed odd, because it was usually open.

I hurried to it and shoved it open.
