Greg dipped his head.

When everyone was out of the room except for Rafael and me, Rafael turned to me.

“You went easy on him,” Rafael said. “I’m surprised.”

“Well, I didn’t exactly make it clear what Luca’s status here was, especially when he has guards with him all the time. Having to apologize to Luca will be enough of a punishment for Greg. I don’t want everyone to start resenting Luca because of this. They’re friends with Greg. They’re not friends with Luca. But now they’ll know they can’t treat him like a prisoner or a slave.”

That was something only I could do.

Luca belonged to me, not to any of them.

“Yeah, you’re right. I hope I’ll be around when Greg has to apologize. That will be fun to watch.” The corners of Rafael’s lips lifted up.

“I’m sure it will.” A grin spread across my lips.

Chapter 12

“HEY,” RAFAEL SAID ASsoon as he saw me. “I almost forgot to tell you, but Luca’s birthday is today. His twenty-first.”

“Oh, I didn’t know.” A week had gone by since the incident in the lunchroom, and there hadn’t been any more problems.

Greg had actually apologized, and even though I hadn’t had the chance to see it, Rafael had told me it had been hilarious.

“How could you? The info was buried under all the other files Giovanni gave us.”

“Then we could do something for Luca. It’s a nice day outside.” I glanced through the window.

The sky was completely blue and the sun was shining brightly.

“Grab one of the suits for him,” I said. “I’m taking him out.”

Rafael’s jaw went slack. “Are you sure you want to do that? He’ll try to run away or do something to get the attention of the cops.”

“I’ll bring a bunch of guards with us. It’ll be fine. Make a reservation at my favorite restaurant.”

“All right, but it’s a big risk you’re taking.”
