It would never, ever happen to me.

Chapter 15

IHAD JESSICA.

She was brought to me with a hood over her head. Rafael and the others put her in a room we’d cleared out so we could question her.

Her cries and screams echoed through the hallway as I made my way to the room where she was.

Rafael was at the door. “She won’t stop screaming.”

“She will.” I entered the room.

Jessica was tied to a chair, so she wouldn’t be going anywhere.

I yanked the hood off her head. Her makeup had smeared, leaving black lines under her blue eyes. Her blonde hair was disheveled.

She was wearing a red shirt and jeans.

Just a regular girl.

Or maybe not, since she’d been in Santino’s company.

Tears streamed down her face as she looked up at me.

“Please!” she cried. “Let me go!”

A wail escaped her throat.

“What do you know about Oscar Santino?” I said. “Tell me, and we’ll let you get out of here.”

But instead of answering, she started screaming for help.

She was like a banshee.

“No one who might want to help you can hear you here,” I said, revealing my gun.
