“He’s never going to agree to that. There’s no benefit to him, and we can’t offer him much because if we pay him, we’re not going to get any richer than with our usual route.”

“Too bad you’re already married,” Rafael teased.

“Shut up.” I shot him a glare. “It’s not even funny. Marrying someone who actually holds a lot of power would be a terrible idea anyway.”

Rafael lifted his hands up. “All right, Boss.”

“We have to come up with a better plan. Spying on him won’t work. We need to be more careful about it.”

“How are we going to do that?”

“I’m not sure yet, but try to find some connections. Someone who knows him. A friend in common. Or just someone who talks a lot. Don’t ask anything too suspicious. Maybe try to find out what Santino likes.”

Rafael’s eyebrows rose up. “What he likes?”

“Yeah. Think of it this way. If he had social media accounts, what would you be able to find out? What he likes to do? What are his favorite books? Does he like any sports? All those seemingly innocent things.”

Rafael still kept looking at me in surprise. “As you wish.”

He might not understand why I needed that information, but I’d given him an order, and he was going to carry it out, no matter what.

I liked that about him.

“Is there anything else you need?” he asked. “Maybe I can book something for you? A massage? A dinner at your favorite restaurant? Something else to help you relax?”

And I liked Rafael because he was a true friend when I needed one.

“No. I’ll be fine. But thanks.” I gave him a small smile.

“Let me know if you change your mind.”

I nodded, and he headed for the door. Actually, I was probably going to grab some popcorn and watch the live feed from Luca’s room.

Yeah, it was weird.

Maybe a bit creepy too.

And completely pointless.

But I liked looking at him. He was easy on the eyes.

Very, very easy.
