Story: Merciless Intents
Beg.
“You can’t tell him,” I said, my voice coming out a little more desperate than I’d meant for it to. “Please. Please don’t tell him oranyoneelse. You don’t understand why, and I can’t tell you. Just… please. You can’t tell him.”
The second all that was out of my mouth, I knew I’d fucked up. I knew I’d taken every ounce of power I’d had and placed it in his hands. He had leverage on me now, and he could do anything he wanted.
“Oh, I think I can,” he said. “In fact, I can tell anyone I want. You should know that even being around me comes with consequences.”
My eyes narrowed, the need to regain control urging me on. “Yeah, andyoushould know fucking with me comes with bodily injury.”
He shrugged again. “Well, now I know what you’re capable of, so I won’t be so easy to take next time.”
“Sweetheart,” I said, mocking his pet name for me a moment ago, as well as the tone. “You havenoidea what I’m capable of yet.”
He smiled. “And neither do you—but you’re about to find out.”
Turning, he unlocked the stall door and stepped out. I knew there was nothing else I could say to stop him or convince him not to say anything to Asher. He either would, or he wouldn’t. It was a waiting game now. I just prayed if he told Asher, that he wouldn’t tell anyone else.
“Make sure to eat lunch. You missed breakfast this morning. You’ll waste away to nothing. It’s the first day back, so it’s pizza and pasta day,” he said, casually waving without turning back as he exited the bathroom.
Apparently, there hadn’t been enough warnings in the world for Damian Wolfe.
Not that I believed I could have ignored him, anyway.
Something told me that boy had it out for me now, and this little game of ours was only getting started.
CHAPTER FIVE
ASHER
Lunch couldn’t come soon enough. Damian had been busting our asses every morning for football workouts, and with our little stunt in the hallway this morning, I had to skip breakfast. I was starving.
I made my way into the cafeteria, which was set up like more of a restaurant than anything. The tables had white table clothes on them, and menus were laid out for every seat on high-quality cardstock. As I walked through the large room, I ignored all the looks and pointing. I was used to it, which made me sound like a pompous ass, but it was all just so predictable.
The girls at the school giggled and whispered to one another, pointing at me in a way that made them believe I somehow didn’t notice. They pulled back, bit their lips, and waved at me in hopes I’d notice them. I couldn’t care less. I tried to avoid dating at this school anymore if I could help it for that reason exactly.
I didn’t need the entire school knowing my shit.
I’d made that mistake a time or two already.
When I got to our table in the back, I sat next to Damian and grabbed a menu. The guys were laughing and going on about something, but I didn’t give two shits. I just wanted to fill out the menu and get my food. Pizza and pasta day was my favorite, and I needed the carbs, so I planned to get some of both.
“…should have seen her. It was incredible.” Despite trying to ignore him, Damian’s voice broke through my concentration.
“I wish I could have. Sounds pretty hot,” Michael responded.
I fought a roll of my eyes. Ah, yes. Another of Damian’s escapades. The man had no shame.
“Everyone done filling these out?” I asked as I grabbed the stack of menus off the table and added mine to it.
Damian turned to me, eyeing me for a moment. “Yeah.” He watched my face, studying me, but I didn’t know why. I gave him the raised-browwhat the fuckexpression, and he half grinned. “Haven’t you been listening?”
I snorted as I lifted the menus in the air. “No. I’ve been actively trying not to.” A server came by and smiled as he picked up the menus. I returned the smile. “Thank you.”
“You’re quite welcome, Mr. Jackson,” he said before turning and walking away.
“Hmm. Interesting,” Damian said, amusement in his voice. I turned to look at him, and he smiled wider. “Of all people, I would have thought this conversation would beveryinteresting to you—you know—given your obsession and all.”
My brows furrowed. “What are you talking about?”
“You can’t tell him,” I said, my voice coming out a little more desperate than I’d meant for it to. “Please. Please don’t tell him oranyoneelse. You don’t understand why, and I can’t tell you. Just… please. You can’t tell him.”
