HUNTER’S PROPOSAL LETTER TO ADAM
Adam,
If you had told me that I would meet my future husband on move-in day my freshman year of college, I would have laughed in your face.
I’ve read romance book after romance book, and I thought I knew what I wanted.
But what I wanted was nothing. All I wanted was to love and be loved in return, but even then, it felt like an unattainable dream…
Until you came along. My perfect counterpart, whom I love more than all the sunrises and lavender oat milk lattes.
With your grumpy personality that meshes perfectly with mine, I found a best friend. I found someone that I wanted to share a piece of my life with. I found someone I want to share my whole life with.
And here we are, in front of our friends and family.
I have loved you every moment since I met you. You’re impossible not to love.
Your quick wit, your grumpiness, your sweetness (even when you don’t want anyone to know), your ability to make me laugh on my worst days and keep my smile wide on the good days. Because I have your love, I know that whatever life throws at us, we can accomplish together.
I had this preconceived notion of what love was supposed to be.
It was supposed to be dramatic proclamations, and misunderstandings that are quickly worked through.
You taught me more about love than my romance books ever could.
Love isn’t the grand gestures and the expensive gifts (though you love giving them and I’ll never say no).
But your love is more than all-consuming; it’s a cool breeze on a hot day, giving me relief when I need to feel it the most. Your love is better than any drink, or drug, or high that is available on the market.
It’s a force of nature, one that I can’t fight, and I never will.
I’ll let you carry me away wherever you go.
To know you is to love you, and I swear to love you every day for the rest of my life. Even past that, I will find you in every life, in every moment. I will love you until there is nothing left to love.
I promise to show you I love you every day by reading to you.
I promise to love you by making you crepes in the morning, even when I don’t want to wake up, but I will to see your bright smile.
I vow to always watch The Office with you, no matter how many times we start from the beginning to binge the whole series.
I will always hold your hand and keep your demons away from you.
I write all of this to say: I love you, Adam. You make me the happiest man in the world, and I want us to share a last name. I want to introduce you to people by saying, “Have you met my husband?”
So do me one big favor… Turn around. And say yes. Say yes, that you’ll marry me, and we’ll take on every obstacle this life has to throw at us, together.
