Page 54 of Sinful as They Come (Sinful Trilogy #1)
SAWYER
My room was a mess. Every drawer had been pulled out. Books was scattered all over the place. My paintings – some finished, some only half-done – had been tossed to the floor, the canvases covering the carpet.
My date with Holly was tonight, and I wasn’t about to make a bad first impression.
Well, that had already happened. Years and years ago.
But I was trying to make a good first impression as her boyfriend .
My lips twitched, the label bringing a smile to my face.
Boyfriend . I was Holly Sutton’s boyfriend.
Sliding open my closet doors, I gave the few pairs of jeans I owned a quick once over.
I shoved a hand through the pockets of my light blue pair and hissed out a “fuck” when it gave me nothing in return.
I said a quick mental prayer in my head as I grabbed my black pair.
Thankfully, I had a little more luck upon finding a twenty-dollar note.
My wallet revealed just over a hundred bucks, so the extra bill I had found would come in handy.
All I wanted to do was show Holly that I could be more than the boy who lived in a trailer park.
I could be something . Something more. One day.
I wanted her to be there with me to find out what that would be.
Money was tight. Most of my work money was going towards rent and food and gas. If I had known Holly was going to take my life with her soft hands and turn it into something so much better, then I would have tried to save a little more .
Shaking the thoughts from my head, I pulled on my best shirt.
It wasn’t anything fancy. Just a white, long sleeve shirt I got last year – but only because I needed it for a funeral for Marve’s dad.
It was still crisp; the shirt only had been worn once.
The black dress pants I barely touched came next, and I carefully stuffed my wallet into my pocket.
Brodie was letting me borrow his black blazer that fit surprisingly well. No leather jacket tonight.
I gave my dark hair a quick tussle, annoyed at a few particular strands that wouldn’t sit the way I wanted them to.
I was trying to impress tonight. Impressing girls usually came naturally to me.
But those girls had never been like Holly.
She was on a whole other level. God, she was so far out of my league it was a wonder she even looked at me and sent me those sweet smiles.
And here I was going on a date with her.
“Aw, don’t you look nice? Don’t worry, I’ll be outta here soon.”
My head snapped to the side to see a beaming Brodie standing there. The only reason he was going out was because he wanted to give me some privacy for tonight – just in case.
I rolled my eyes at him. “Shut up.” Then I noticed something in his hand. “What’s that?”
Brodie held up the little card. “Postcard from my dad.”
“Yeah? What does he want?”
“Your dad is with mine. He ended up in Wichita the other day. Dad was just asking if we’re doin’ okay.”
I scoffed. “Both of them can get fucked. No offense to your precious father.”
Brodie tore the postcard in half. “No offense taken in the slightest. But seriously. You look nice.” He walked into the room, standing behind me as he looked at my reflection. “Good luck with tonight.”
“I’ll fuckin’ need it.” I pulled at the sleeves of my shirt. Would Holly like it? She had never seen me so formal. And I wasn’t even dressed that nice. It was just the nicest thing I had in my closet.
“You’ll be fine. No need to be nervous.”
I scoffed. I had every right to be nervous. I was about to go on a date with Holly fucking Sutton. “Thanks for the pep talk.”
“Are you nervous?”
“I’m gonna mess it up somehow.” I tugged at my sleeves some more, my fingers tight on the material.
“I don’t know how, but I will, and then this whole thing will blow up in my fucking face.
I’m lucky this is even happening. That Holly even makes eye contact with me.
I don’t know how I managed to land a date with her. ”
Brodie slapped a hand to my shoulder. “Because she likes you. Duh. You think she’d be going on this date with you if she didn’t have feelings for you? You’ll be okay. She likes you and you like her.”
“Too bad her parents don’t feel the same way,” I muttered. “Gotta park my truck halfway down the fuckin’ street tonight.”
“Girls dig bad boys. It’s probably fun for her.”
“Yeah, until her dad finds out and grabs his shotgun.”
“He’s got a shotgun?”
“I assume he does.”
“You’re not scared of him, are you?” Brodie laughed.
“Me? No. Holly? Maybe...”
“Well, most dads wouldn’t want their daughters running around with Sawyer Westbrook.”
“Well, that fucking sucks for him.” I pulled at my collar, trying to make the shirt feel as comfortable as possible.
I wasn’t afraid of Holly’s dad. I was ready to shove it in his face, ‘cause I knew exactly what the guy would say if he knew what was going on with me and his daughter.
Too bad for him, though, because Holly was all mine tonight.
Turning around, I watched Brodie as he nodded at me, giving me a look of approval.
“What time do you have to have Holly home by?” he asked.
“Eleven.”
“Are you planning on having her home by that time?”
I smirked at him. “We’ll see.”

Like me and Holly agreed to earlier, I parked my truck halfway down the road. I wasn’t sure what excuse Holly was going to give as to why her ride wasn’t showing up in her driveway, but I wasn’t too worried. She was creative. She’d think of something.
My fingers were tapping on the steering wheel, the nerves in my stomach doubling by the second.
I couldn’t wait to see Holly. The thought of her smiling face was enough to make me break out into a grin.
Funny how quickly things had changed for us.
This time last year I couldn’t stand her. God, I hated her. And now…
Now I was looking into my rearview mirror, watching as Holly approached my truck with quick steps. I spied her sweet face in the mirror and her little smile that made my heart fucking soar right into the sky. My door was already unlocked as she pulled it open and sat inside.
I turned to her, instantly reaching over and pulling her into a kiss. She sighed against my lips, her fingers raking through my hair. She made the prettiest noise as I pushed my tongue into her mouth, my hand on her waist.
“Missed you so much, Holly,” I murmured against her lips.
She giggled, her hands lowering from my hair to my shoulders. “I missed you too. Thanks for picking me up.”
My eyes lowered, my tongue running over my lips as I took in what she was wearing.
A pretty, blue and white floral dress. The way she was sitting meant that her dress had hiked up a bit, revealing her smooth thighs that I wanted to grab so bad.
My gaze went from her thighs and up past her waist, until I was looking at her covered up breasts.
What I would do to see them all bare for me…
“What are you staring at?” she asked, her voice playful.
I looked back up at her face. At her big eyes and pouty lips and red cheeks. God, she was so fucking pretty.
“You look gorgeous,” I said lowly. “And I’m happy I get you all to myself tonight.”
“Aw, thanks.” She pecked my lips. “And you look so handsome tonight. You clean up good. ”
I laughed, not quite believing her. “You ready to go?”
“Let’s do it.”
Holly didn’t live too far from the city, so the drive to the restaurant I had picked wasn’t that far away.
Part of me wished the drive was a little longer, though, because Holly grabbed my hand and placed it on her thigh.
It would have been nice to keep it there forever.
I looked over at her, giving her a quick glance.
I gave her smooth thigh a little squeeze, not missing the way her skin felt. So warm, so soft.
We soon arrived at the restaurant. The place had valet parking – something I certainly wasn’t used to. We got out and I laced my fingers with Holly’s, and that was when I got a proper look at her. Thanks to how sneaky we had to be, I didn’t get a good chance to take her in when I picked her up.
Her dress stopped just before her ankles. The material clung to her curves, and the thin straps traced along her shoulders. A split at the hem revealed a peak of her gorgeous legs.
“Gimme a twirl, princess,” I told her lowly.
She blushed but let me spin her around, my eyes instantly lowering and zeroing in on the curve of her ass. She was gorgeous. Just beautiful from head to toe.
“What do you think?” she asked with a shy smile.
“I wish I could paint you right now, but I’ll settle for just staring.”
She laughed and held my hand tighter, letting me guide her into the restaurant. I felt like all eyes were on me and I couldn’t tell if it was because they all knew how out of place I was or because the prettiest girl in the building was there on my arm. Either way…
The restaurant was quiet and sophisticated.
The white walls and fireplace at the back of the room contrasted against the dark wood flooring below us.
Every table was set up with pure, white tablecloths; all the dark chairs appeared to be made of real leather.
It was the fanciest place I had ever been to.
We were guided to our table, a quiet spot away from prying eyes and hushed whispers. All I wanted to do was drink Holly in, anyway. To just stare at her all night and get lost in the fact that she was mine.
When we were given the menus I laughed in my head at how expensive the meals were. Rich people lived funny lives.
“We really didn’t have to come here, Sawyer,” Holly sighed.
“You deserve it. Let me take care of you. I told you I’d take good care of you, didn’t I?” I grabbed her hand, my thumb tracing along her soft skin. “Get what you want.”
The waiter came over and scribbled down our selections. Me and Holly spent time talking about the school week and how she had snapped at Carter in psychology class the other day. I was pissed I had missed it.
The food came and I realized then how hungry I was.
I hadn’t eaten all day. I was too nervous about my date with Holly.
All I wanted to do was prove to her that I could be the man that she deserved.
Even though I couldn’t give her everything, I was going to do all I could to show her how much she meant to me.
We ate our food and I quickly came to the conclusion that a burger and fries tasted better than whatever the hell rich people willingly ate.
Holly seemed to enjoy her meal, though. And that was all that mattered.
When we were done with that my eyes scanned over the dessert menu.
Maybe that stuff would taste better, and I still had just enough cash to get us some cake or something.
“You in the mood for cheesecake?” I suggested. “The dessert menu looks pretty good.”
Holly hummed, and I felt her high heeled foot rubbing up against my leg under the table. My eyes quickly locked onto her face, and I saw her blushing at me. Her pouty lips looked so fucking kissable and I wanted to run my hands through her dark hair and pull her into my lap.
“We could have dessert here,” she whispered. “Or we could have it at your place…”
My cock twitched at the suggestive tone in her voice.
I wasn’t entirely sure what she meant by that.
More kissing? Where I could get my hands on her and hold her close while I got to kiss those soft, pretty lips?
Because I was more than happy with that.
Or… something el se? Because I was definitely happy with that too.
I cleared my throat and nodded slowly at her.
God, I wanted her. Wanted her every way I could get her.
I held my hand up to the waiter, signaling for him to give us our check.
I wasn’t sure what the night was about to bring me. But I was excited to find out.
