Gabe laughs, waggling his brows. “Easier said than done, if you know what I mean.”

Dawson makes a face. “I do and I hate it. Please stop.”

Gabe giggles. “So, how was the honeymoon?”

“Dee!” Olivia runs toward them, barreling against Dawson’s back and hugging him from behind. More champagne splashes out. “This is so fucking beautiful, I have no words. I’m so proud of you!”

“Mommy said a bad word!” Chloe yelps, her and Leia’s eyes wide.

Olivia waves them away. “I’ll put a dollar in the jar when I get home.” She looks at Cal. “Thank you for making him do this, Cal. He never listens to me. How did you convince him?”

“French toast.”

“Holy shit,” Gabe chokes out at the same time that Olivia cries, “Oh my god, eww,” her face turning green.

Why eww? What’s wrong with French toast?

“Jesus, no!” Dawson steps in, looking horrified. “He made me actual French toast!”

“Well, that’s disappointing,” Gabe says.

“Is there another meaning for French toast?” Cal asks him.

“Well…”

“Gabe,” Dawson says in a warning.

Gabe seals his mouth shut, but Cal can see him smiling.

“How’s your book coming along, Cal?” Olivia asks, her color back to normal.

“It’s good.”

“Any closer to the finish line?”

“It’s already finished,” Dawson tells her, earning a look of betrayal from Cal. “He’s just scared to send it out for editing.”

“If I send it out for editing, other people will read it.”

“That’s…kind of the point?” Olivia says, confused.

She doesn’t understand. No one does. Maybe Dawson does a little, but that can’t compare. His art is breathtakingly beautiful. Cal’s writing is…not.

“What is it about?” Gabe asks. “You never said.”

Cal smiles, glancing at Dawson. “Soulmates.”

“Oh, I love that! Can I read it?”

“No.”

Dawson laughs, pressing himself against Cal’s side. “Give him a break. He gets teased enough by me.”

“I do.”

“You know I love you,” Dawson says, taking his hand. He presses his lips together, looking nervous again. “Guys, could you excuse us for a sec?”

“Please don’t have sex in a public place,” Olivia begs, scrunching her nose.
