He waits until they’re home to bring it back up. “So, about the donation. Could we do that?”

Dawson gives a reluctant nod and pulls out his phone.

“Yeah, I can do it now if you want.” Cal nods. “Do you…um…want to do a one-off or a recurring donation?”

“Which is better?”

Dawson studies him and he hesitates with his answer. “We could set up a recurring donation for every month. That would probably work the best.”

“Alright. Sounds good.” He has no idea how this works. Better to leave it up to Dawson.

“How much do you want to donate?”

“What amount will actually make a difference?”

“Whatever amount is helpful.”

“Dawson.” Why is he so sketchy when it comes to money?

“Okay, uh…five hundred?”

That’s not what Cal had expected. “Can we afford it?”

“Yeah, easily.”

“Then double it.”

Dawson sputters. “W-what?”

“Double it. If we can easily afford five hundred, then a thousand should be fine too.”

“If you’re sure…” Dawson says, but he doesn’t move his hands, like he’s expecting Cal to change his mind.

“I trust your judgment.”

Dawson lets out a small, incredulous huff. “Okay. Yeah, okay, that’s…that’s really generous.” His fingers hover over the phone, still unsure. Finally, he presses his thumb to something on the screen. “Done.”

“Wonderful.”

Dawson pockets his phone, still looking a little dumbstruck. “So, um, what do you want to eat?”

“Are donuts an option?”

That earns him a hard glare. “No.”

Yeah, he didn’t think so. Worth a try, though. “I’ll leave it up to you.”

Dawson rolls his eyes, muttering ‘typical’ under his breath. “I was thinking we could make pizzas today. From scratch.”

“Is it hard?”

“Super easy, actually. But it takes a while, because we need to wait for the dough to rise.”

“We can watch something in the meantime.”

Dawson grins, likely thinking the same. “Good idea. Any preference?”

“Maybe the other amnesia movie?”
