Chapter 38
Tobias
S he sleeps so beautifully.
Even if she’s covered in another man’s blood.
My fingertips gently trace her lips, desperate for her to wake up and let me kiss them. Or wrap them around my cock. Or see them move and sound the words that keep replaying in my mind.
I want you. I need you. I love you. You’re a good person. We belong together. We’re going to be a family. Let’s run away together. I want you. I need you. I love you. You’re a good person. We belong together. We’re going to be a family. Let’s run away together. I want you. I need you. I love you. You’re a good person. We belong together. We’re going to be a family. Let’s run away together. I want you. I need you. I love you. You’re a good person. We belong together. We’re going to be a family. Let’s run away together. I want you. I need you. I love you. You’re a good person. We belong together. We’re going to be a family. Let’s run away together.
Like a mantra. Her voice. Her breathy voice in my ear when she’s nowhere around. It has become all I can hear, and I’m not sure if the words are from my memories, or if my mind is playing tricks on me.
The fact she’s here, lying unconscious before me, shows she cares. She came for me, and now, I have her.
She’ll wake. I’ll tell her we can work through these issues. I can see past the fact Ewan has been all over her the past few weeks despite her carrying my child. I can forgive her.
I will forgive her.
My phone buzzes on the table beside me. I glance over to see my mom’s contact flashing up before I roll my eyes and reject the call.
My gaze falls on Aria again, and I wrap a strand of brown around my finger, tsking at the change of color to try and defy me.
She could have any color of hair, and she’d still be mine.
Her clothes are wet, the flames from the fire doing nothing to dry her, so I leave her there and look around the shack. Justin found it while we were looking for somewhere to hide out until we formed a plan. He wanted to leave right away, but I couldn’t leave without my doctor and unborn child.
The owners are dead. Justin threw their bodies into the lake nearby, weighted them down enough that when their bodies float to the surface, we’ll be long gone.
Grabbing another blanket, I check outside. Justin left a while ago for the meeting with the guy helping us escape, but he has been gone a few hours. I was supposed to go after my contact back home arranged it all, but I have more important plans.
Her eyelids flutter, her brows furrowing, and I replace the blanket with a dry one while I watch her slowly wake.
I need her to smile at me, to tell me she’s happy to see me.
And then, we’ll leave this place for good.
