Page 37 of Not My Type (Not My Type #1)
Zara
When I get home, I check my phone. I don’t get a follow back from Jemmy Nye, but I did get a follow from Nickoi. I smile and hurriedly follow him back only for it to say requesting. Ugh!
Everything Instagram want when the page private.
I already showered and made sure I was dressed for the night out with Suzanne. I check myself in the mirror and a car honks. A must she that.
Mama pulls the door. “Wah lady outside Zara,” The look on her face tells me that she’s concerned.
“Okay, we are going out to a restaurant or something,” I tell her. I don’t know exactly where we are going but I’m guessing it’s a restaurant.
“Alright mi love, take care,” I smile and walk out.
“Yuh look good!” Zanne exclaims when I approach the black Porsche. A did fi har? Weh Suzanne would a get money from? Nuh must har boyfriend car, My subconscious starts. Hear yah.
I’m dressed in a silky champagne cowl-neck top, draping perfectly, showing enough skin at the back, without doing too much, with a boyfriend light wash jeans that falls right over my clear heels, minimal makeup, a few delicate bracelets and a beige woven clutch bag.
“You too!” I smile cheekily. Her bodycon dress fits like a second skin, makeup flawless. She winks at me, moving her bag from the passenger seat and putting it on the backseat.
“Junior choose this dress fimme enuh!” she squeals.
“Love a supportive husband,” I climb in.
“Mi a tell yuh, the bwoy can dress better than me,” she adds making us laugh.
She pulls off and I take the time to check my phone.
I notice that I got a ‘What’s up’ message from ‘My Mann’.
I send him a quick text, let him know I’m on the road with Zanne, then check out his profile.
There it is, two pictures. In the first one, he’s sharp in a Dior suit.
The second, all black with a blue ski mask, posted up on a black Mark X.
Both pulling in over 30k likes. But what’s weird?
His comments are off. I suck my teeth, toss my phone in my bag. Maybe I’m overthinking.
“You ever try this restaurant?” Suzanne asks and I notice that it’s Oceano. the same Japanese restaurant that I went to with Gavin and Sash.
“Mi come here other day,” I tell her as my mind runs on that night. So much happened. She parks the car.
“Mi husband suggest it, him come here before,” she tells me.
“Okay, the food nice but expensive.”
“As expected,” she giggles. My phone vibrates.
My Man *Yuh nah go bother do your hair?*
It seems so wasteful fi just do mi hair Saturday and by Tuesday it wah change. Mi nah braid back mi hair. Normally I have my hair in for two weeks when I wear wigs or sew in’s. I start typing.
*A Saturday mi do it enuh. I’ll just wear it.*
My Man *Did you check the bag?*
Oh, yeah and mi see 200k in it. Why him give me so much money? The most money me hold in my hand is 50k and that’s when my mom sends me money ... so 200k is a whole lot to me. Poor thing... I hate that for you, My subconscious teases and as I walk in behind Suzanne, I type a response.
The money is a lot… that’s for hair alone?
“Where we sitting?” Suzanne asks and I point at the spot that I sat the last time. She smiles as we take our seats.
“Mi seh the one Kelsey mad enuh,” she starts. “Because me tell her fi do the gender reveal at the event and she seh she cya bear fi wait so she get it before and find out seh it’s a bwoy.”
“She’s just excited,” I say, and a waitress walks over to us.
“Hey ladies! I’m your server tonight and my name is Ellie,” she hands us the tablet with the menu. “As you beautiful ladies look over the menu, are there any appetizers you’d like to try?” She asks. Customer service turn up mon.
“Can we have the soup dumplings?” I ask her because I’m feeling that. She nods.
“Yes girl!”
I look at the waitress. “Just give us a serving of soup dumplings, please,” I smile and she nods, repeating our order.
“Is that it for the appetizer?” We nod, and the waitress walks off while Zanne dives right back into talking.
I half-listen, scrolling through the menu, trying to figure out what I want. In no time, the waitress is back with our soup dumplings, steam rising off them, and we go ahead and order our mains. Zanne gets the crispy rice cake, and I go for the steak ramen and a smoky, elevated sushi roll.
“We’d like two Mango Mocktails too,” I say and she nods after pouring water in our cups. As soon as she walks away we start biting into our juicy, soup dumplings.
“This taste soo good,” she moans.
I smile taking up another dumpling, they taste interesting. Her phone rings and she smiles. “A junior this, him cyaa’ do not even an hour without me?” She jokes. “Yuh miss mi already?” She asks him and I smile before I check my phone.
My Man *Done kno’ good p— gyal fi get things*
I blush at that, my fingers typing a response as I slowly chew.
My phone vibrates and I realize that he sent another message.
Then another. It makes me laugh. Once my eyes glance the message, I shake my head with a smile, drafting up my counter message even though he corrected himself before I did. I send it anyways.
My Man *Wife… but do yuh hair, yuh been a complain… and if yuh want more just say the word Mami*
*Plus. Mi help pull it up*
*Periodddd but wife* *Anyways thanks babe*
He doesn’t open the message, so I focus on my food. Five minutes later we are done eating. “Wi clean the damn plate. Less than ten minutes,” Zanne looks around whispering and I laugh so hard.
“Wi nuh come fi waste the food enuh,” I giggle.
“Yuh mad? And dem suh dear!?” She widens her eyes.
I wipe my mouth. “You are so dramatic!” I laugh.
She starts rubbing her teeth with the hand towel and I start giggling. I really didn’t know Suzanne was such a bubbly person.
How would you know when you judge people and treat them based on what you come up with in your mind?
I ignore her.
The waitress comes back with our meals and another gives us our Mango Mocktails. He smiles at me.
“Thank you.” I hold it carefully.
Him look at yuh like him know yuh.
I ignore it and smile at the waitress. “Um miss Ellie, I just want to thank you for being such a darling and I admire your customer service,” I smile, I really do. Zanne nods in agreement. Tip har nuh rich gyal... yuh boyfriend nuh give you nuff money?
I hate my subconscious.
Ellie smiles. “Awww, you’re welcome. Enjoy your meal ladies and if you need anything I’ll be over there,” she points and I nod. She walks away and I sip the drink. Bwoy yuh living the life ...
“Taste good tho?” Suzanne asks and I nod, still drinking. I close my eyes and hear her chuckle.
“It’s so satisfying,” I breathe, looking at her. She giggles. After we were done eating our food, I was full. There’s no way I can eat any more food.
“Girl yuh look like yuh full and mi wah order cheesecake,” Suzanne grins.
“Nosah,” I laugh in disbelief. “Somebody cya crav’n suh.” She laughs out calling Ellie.
“Hey Ellie can I get a slice of cheesecake?” She asks and Ellie nods. She looks at me and I shake my head laughing.
“I’m full I don’t want any more food,” I wave my hand no.
“Mi full too but to how deh cheesecake deh look me affi get piece,” she grins.
“Alright,” I smile. My phone vibrates again. I chuckle at the message.
My Man *Done?*
*You miss me?*
My Man *Yes. Mi a gwaan catch up w Miss Sandra still?*
I gasp at that message. Mama!?
Calm down yuh forget dem a friends now? Oh, yeah.
“Zara wah yuh think bout this?” Zanne shows me a picture of a denim dress.
“It’s cute... you like it?” I ask.
“Yea me buy it online fi the baby shower,” she retorts.
“Ohh, you wearing that?” It looks a little casual. And I thought I was the only one doing that.
She nods. “Yes, mi know it kinda look casual but Kelsey say it nuh matter as long as it blue and yuh bring the girl a gift,” she giggles.
That mean say nutt’n nuh do mi two piece.
“I was wondering if my fit was too casual,” I admit.
“It blue?” she asks and I nod.
“That matter,” she chuckles, and Ellie appears with the cheesecake.
She grins, stretching the fork to me. “Want piece?” I hesitate at first then I nod.
“Okay... mek mi see,” I take the plate.
“This is nice... I think we should hang out more often, worst like how we are family now,” she says and I nod in agreement.
“Definitely.”
