Page 20 of Not My Type (Not My Type #1)
Zara
His definition of chillin’ is a whole new level of tantalizing embrace. I welcome it. It’s a new feeling, but I love it. I feel so safe in his arms. His scent, his toned muscles against my skin — just his presence allures me.
Get you one o’ deeeez!
“Why you so obsessed with my breast sir?” my voice comes out sweet. His face pressed against my cleavage.
A playful hum slips through his lips. I smile, turning my eyes to the movie. It’s Ride Along. For some reason, I knew he wouldn’t like ‘Little’ that I was previously watching. He’s too thug for that. I exhale, now thinking about my pizza. Why are they taking forever? Ugh.
“What time is it?” I look down at him. He flexes his wrist before he responds.
“Time fi yuh focus pan the killa and not this,” he grips the remote and pause the movie. I laugh out. While he, on the other hand, just stares impassively.
“What timeee?” I whine and pat the bed for my phone since he wants to be smart.
“Mi nah repeat,” he retorts.
“Sorry,” I say, my voice sarcastic.
I find my phone and check the time myself. 7 o’ clock. I continue my sarcasm. “How hard was that?” my eyes finds him.
“Like this,” he looks down and I shake my head with a sheepish laugh.
He finally smiles— so sweet.
“You are something else,” I lean to the side, grab the remote and resume the show.
Surprisingly, he doesn’t react. Instead, he hugs me tight with his eyes glued to the screen that’s mounted to my wall. I breathe out as he gradually runs his hands behind my thighs, moves up, circles my ass and slaps it. I put my face in his neck, bring my leg up to his torso and hug him.
“Ow!” I wince when he slaps my ass the second time.
He bites his lip. I look at the TV while blushing uncontrollably.
Then my mind drifts to my pizza. It should’ve been delivered already.
Look at the time. Ugh. Why are they trying to get on my nerves?
My thoughts are cut off when my belly rumbles.
Feeling self-conscious, my eyes find him, and a sigh of relief leaves my lips when I realize that he didn’t hear it.
I gently slip out of his grip and roll off the bed.
I’m dying.
I open the door and poke my head out, only to see the man waiting at the grill. My jaw hits the floor.
How long has he been waiting?
“Just a minute,” I tell the guy before I look back at Nick.
“Who that?” his eyes curious. I lean against the door, my brows dancing.
“The delivery guy,” I smile before I close the door and walk away leaving him there staring. I collect my pizza and pay. He shoots me a smile.
“I always see you and like you enuh,” he flirts.
Jesus no. If him know wah good fi him, him leave.
“Bye,” I try to cut him off.
Our relationship is fresh. We’ve just started dating, I don’t want the problems.
“Just your number mi want, we can link again?” he continues. I move closer to him after looking back.
“When yuh come yer, don’t flirt with me because mi ma—” his eyes moves from me to behind me.
“Wah a tek yuh so long?” a low voice ask from behind me, laced with enough rasp to turn the seat of my panties into a puddle.
Dadadeee, my subconscious sings.
He toss a pepper shrimp snack in the trash then walks out and takes the box from me. The delivery guy’s eyes pop in fear. If mi neva’ kno better mi would a buss out a Quite Perry laugh.
“Thanks for using 7krave,” he mutters under his breath and briskly walks away.
After that, I walk in behind Nick. I place Mama’s stuff in the microwave and join him in the room — he’s lying face down on my bed. “Do you want pizza?” I inquire, and he shakes his head no.
Okay... he doesn’t strike me as a pizza eating person anyways. I climb on the bed, right next to him. Then he turns on his side, watching quietly as I daintily eat my food.
“When you o’ done?” he questions after about five minutes of staring. I only took out two slices of pizza with a chicken wing.
“Almost done,” I say as I chew the last slice in my hand. He’s still staring.
“What?”
“Wan’ have you to miself,” he tells me. I can’t help blushing.
“Man serious enuh.” Ughh. He has no business being this handsome..
“Okay, I’m done now,” I lean over, wipe my hands with wipes and straddle him. His face lights up. I rock my hips, smiling coyly when I get a reaction from him. I’m right on his crotch. I tilt my head to the side, staring flirtatiously at him admiring my body.
“You think we go together?” my lips graze his the very moment he looks up from my navel piercing. Whew.
My heart speeds up.
“You a the perfect woman fi me,” he starts. “Sexy, pretty, educated... innocent,” he smirks.
“Innocent,” I giggle.
“You’re not?” his eyebrows raises as his eyes flicker with excitement. “Oh, mi see’ pree.”
I laugh and watch as he bites his bottom lip. The jangling of the key against the grill grabs my attention. Followed by the living room door opening and closing. I sit up, alarmed. Lawd Jesus!
“Zara?” Gavin opens my door. Just in time, to see me rolling off Nick’s lap. We gasp.
“Seriously?” his eyes steely. In his hand is Nick’s multi-coloured hoodie. “How you pull the door?” I ask then Mama’s voice answers my question. Oh lord.
Quickly I walk out, closing the door behind me. I can’t afford for her to see him and Gavin’s death glare is making me uneasy. “I can explain,” I grab the hoodie from him and hide it behind me.
“Mi church sista make Gavin drive her car,” Mama says when her eyes meet my astonished face. I nod and look at Gavin.
His piercing eyes are set on the Tv screen. Jesus. My heart quickens when Mama looks around the room with an unreadable expression for whatever reason.
“The chicken and pizza in the microwave,” I say, hoping that it’ll ease the tension a little bit.
“Alright, me a go change,” she says before she walks to her room.
I can feel Gavin burning holes through my head. “A really who me think mi just see lidung in a yuh bed, possibly did a have sex with yuh!?” he whisper yells.
“We didn’t do anything,” I defend.
“The way how things look, can I even trust you anymore?” he asks in a sarcastic tone. Ouch, that hurts.
“ Don’t say that,” I breathe.
“A the bad bwoy that ina yuh bed?” Gavin repeats. I’m dumbfounded. Gavin’s expression shows me that after this I could possibly lose my best friend.
“Can I just explain?” I ask fidgeting with my fingers.
“The bwoy would a kill Mr. Perry— even wi, just look how the dutty bwoy wicked,” he spits out the words angrily. I crease my brows.
Why him a call him dat?
Him not even know the bwoy.
I decide to stay quiet. I don’t want to make this situation any worse. “Wah get in a yuh? My bestfriend Zara would a never deh with a cruff like this much less fi have him in a har granny place. A wah the hell get in a yuh? You a act like Sash and me really did think seh you different!”
“Stop gwaan so... I- I’m the same... it’s just that I un— ”
“Nuh say nutt’n to me man,” he walks away. “Mama me a leave now so goodnight!” Her voice echoes from behind her room door.
You know what it never was? That serious.
“Zara?” Nick’s raspy voice calls and I look over my shoulder.
“Yes?” I answer, feeling so uncomfortable knowing that Gavin is seeing this. I look back at Gavin and he shakes his head at me in disappointment. Disbelief and disgust.
“Cya believe this a raatid,” he mumbles.
“Gavin, it nuh that serious enuh,” I say to him. He snorts.
“Oh, really?”
Nick walks back into the room and closes the door softly. Maybe he’s giving us space.
“You a go hear me out?” I ask him.
He glares at me. “Wah?”
“I like him but me couldn’t tell you that,” I admit.
“Yes because me would a lick back yuh sense dem in a yuh, but you do this behind me back. Weh this secretive side did a hide all along? Why a now you feel fi betray me and spit in a mi face?” he questions.
“Gavin. Stop,” I breathe out. This is heading somewhere I don’t like. I look down and sigh before I meet his glare again. “You a me only friend enuh,” I hold his hand. Losing a bestfriend is so painful, especially over something as trivial as this.
“Yuh nuh need me,” he says. Oh?
“So, because of this you a go vex with me?” I want to cry at this point. I’m frustrated and whenever I am, I cry.
“Zara? How yuh fi have him out of all persons in a yuh bed?! Zara mi nuh wah have nothing fi do with you. Live yuh life but just know seh wen him hurt yuh I am unavailable.”
“Why can’t you just support me?” I finally start crying. I’ve never felt so desperate in my life. He responds harshly. “Yuh deh with smaddy weh kill people and almost kill wi too!? I can’t.”
“The time late me affi lef now,” he abruptly says and storms out. Every word that he said to me cuts through me like a sword. Mi know him wouldn’t accept him. I knew it. What did I expect? I wipe my tears and head back to the room. When I do, Nick is watching the movie as he gets ready to leave.
“You a leave?” I ask, worriedly. He nods. “Mi a go link yuh tomorrow.”
“Alright,” I sob. I can’t imagine a life without my cousin Gavin.
He has always been here for me and now he’s walking out of my life just like that?
Nick lifts my chin and kisses my lips. I exhale against his, running my hand through his hair before I move my face to the crook of his neck with tears rolling down my cheeks.
“Yuh fren soon come back round,” he assures me. So him really did a listen?
“You think so?” I ask.
“Mhm,” he hums.
“This is the biggest fight we’ve had,” I tell him.
“I can see that, everything soon mek sense though,” he hugs me.
“Okay, stay safe,” I wave and he walks out.
I follow him, praying that Mama is sleeping.
Why not the back door? Vicky lives behind us, she ago chat.
We make it to the front and a black SUV pulls up to us.
His chauffeur is on time. I see. I feel relieved when I realize that his car wasn’t parked here.
He hugs me again before he moves to my ear.
“Me a get yuh tomorrow so be ready,” he promises. I smile sweetly.
“Okay,” I wave and he hops in the back. As soon as I turn around, Mama is staring at me with her mouth wide open. Lawddd God!
