But for now, we’d live in the present as simply Ajax and Cami.
CHAPTER22
CAMI
A Few Days Later
Ajaxand I had developed a bit of a routine over the last few days.
We ate breakfast together, discussed different types of Nightmare Fae, had lunch, visited one of Lucifer’s many libraries in the afternoon to read, ate dinner, and spent our evenings just being us.
Last night we’d even watched a movie from the Human Realm, one I’d been hoping to see last month.
When I’d mentioned it to Ajax, he’d conjured a device that contained the film. Then we’d lounged on the couch with some popcorn and transformed the living area into our own little theater.
It turned out that the black screen wasn’t operated by a remote but by specific commands, something Ajax had taught me so I could use it as desired.
Alas, it was mostly filled with Hell Fae surveillance videos rather than entertaining shows.
So I’d mostly been intrigued by the various books within Lucifer’s library. Hence the one I’d set out on my bed to read once I finished getting ready.
Only, I couldn’t decide what to wear today because my routine with Ajax had been disrupted.
He’d been called away this morning by Az, derailing our usual breakfast plan. Rather than invite me along—which I’d stupidly hoped he’d do—Ajax had told me to stay in the guest suite and read for a bit. Then he’d conjured some sort of magical net all around me, ensuring I couldn’t leave.
“I see you still don’t trust me,” I’d muttered at him, bothered by being excluded and his babysitting spell. A practical part of me had recognized that his actions made sense, but that hadn’t stopped a part of me from feeling disappointed in being reverted back to captive status.
“I’m not sure about that,” he’d replied, giving me a cryptic look. “But I don’t trustthat.” He’d pointed at Vita on the coffee table—the place it’d been since the other day. “Please don’t create any portals while I’m gone. If Lucifer comes in here and sees it, he won’t be pleased.”
With that unnecessary warning, Ajax had disappeared, leaving me to make my own breakfast. I’d decided on coffee, then taken a shower, and proceeded to stare at my closet now as I tried to determine what to wear.
I wanted something comfortable, but most of the pajamas were lingerie sets. Which was why I’d spent the last few nights wearing a tank top and lacy panties to bed. They were the most practical. But also cute.Just in case a certain Midnight Fae decided to join me,I thought with a sigh.
However, he hadn’t. He’d simply slept on the couch the last five nights instead.
My eyes narrowed. Ajax hadn’t so much as touched me, either. Well, aside from our tumble the other day after the portal incident, anyway.
But even last night, he’d kept a foot between us on the couch while we’d watched the movie. Like he’d actively been trying not to be near me despite our close proximity.
He’d actually seemed quite relieved to hear from Az this morning, his eagerness to run away a palpable presence in the air when he’d announced his intentions. Maybe I was just reading too much into the situation. It wouldn’t be surprising, given everything that had happened since being forced to the Hell Fae Realm.
Blowing out a breath, I focused on my clothes again.
Maybe I should go for comfortable yet sexy,I pondered.Who knows how long Ajax will be gone? I can at least feel good about myself while alone, right?
And perhaps a devious part of me hoped he wouldn’t be gone all that long and would just happen to walk in on me dressed in something provocative.
We’ll see how good your resolve is then,I thought, my lips curling.
Because I knew he was attracted to me. I’d seen the evidence of that in all its glory the other day when he’d pinned me to the floor and again to the wall.
It wasn’t like he didn’t know if it was mutual or not; we’d had sex less than a week ago. Obviously, I was drawn to him.And his thick, pierced cock.
I could admit that was part of my disappointment over not being invited to tag along today. I’d wanted to see Az, too.
Because I’m broken.
Or I’d simply been destroyed by the two male fae. They’d awoken a libido inside me that now demanded attention—with or without logical reasoning intact.
