I frowned. “What do you mean?”
He looked like he was about to reply but thought better of it. “Never mind. We shouldn’t keep him waiting. My issues can wait. This portal is more important.”
I wanted to argue, to force him to open up. However, he was right. These rogue portals were a more pertinent issue.
As was Cami’s ability to read Vita. Very few could understand the language in that text—only me, Melek, and Typhos. And that was because the book belonged to Typhos. It was part of his magic. Which was why his mates could read from the pages.
But Cami wasn’t one of Typhos’s mates.
So why can she read it?I wondered as Ajax and I started walking down the corridor toward Typhos’s main office. And how does Typhos intend to handle the situation?
I would have to ponder those questions more thoroughly later.
After we discussed the breach to the Underwater Kingdom.
It was my job as Commander to manage the Nightmare Fae throughout all of the Hell Fae Realm. If one of them was causing this problem, I’d find him and end him.
And if it was someone else outside of our world, I’d track that culprit, too.
It was my job.
My life.
My pledge.
CHAPTER15
CAMI
A Few Minutes Earlier
“Isit really necessary to carry me?” I protested as Melek held me aloft with my legs hanging over one arm as his opposite arm supported my upper back.
He didn’t reply.
Instead, little pinpricks of energy danced across my skin as a whooshing sound startled my ears. I yelped and clung to him, the sudden change in atmosphere leaving me reeling.
And then all I could see was him.
His perfect face.
That chiseled jaw.
Sparkling eyes.
Kissable lips.
Something told me he’d chosen this method of transportation on purpose. Because nothing Melek ever did was innocent, and holding me in his arms while blocking my view of everything except his handsome features certainly qualified as devious.
“How do you feel?” he asked, ignoring my question entirely and further proving my suspicions.
The wordfinerolled over my tongue, only to be swallowed back as an unwelcome wave of nausea hit me before I could respond. I narrowed my gaze, even while lolling my head against his shoulder.
It was as though his words had unleashed a maelstrom of sensation.
I groaned, incapable of forming words.Including cursing, I thought, irritated by whatever he’d just done to me.
And I was doubly annoyed when my groan made him chuckle.
