She had honor. Honor that deserved to be defended, not ripped from her in front of an audience.
“Fuck,” Az breathed, his power pulsating around me. “Ajax—”
An explosion rocked through the nightclub, sending me sideways to the ground as Az’s energy snapped like a rubber band.
I blinked, dazed and startled by the impact, not understanding what had just happened.
Cami was on the floor a few feet away, the cage having dissolved into ash around her. She appeared just as lost as I did, her eyes round as she took in the room around her.
The fires are gone,I realized, noting the dull hum of light coming from the screens and nothing else. Az was on the floor as well, his violet eyes flickering in the dark as he scanned for danger.
Then his focus went straight to Lucifer.
The Hell Fae King stood in the middle of the room, his gaze on the still-glowing hologram. I followed his focus, my lips parting at the sight unfolding before us.
Oh, shit…
The murky waters of the Marsh Lands were swirling in a whirlpool of chaos. Hell Fae Brides rushed out of the way, along with the Unseelie they’d been engaged with, all trying to avoid the spinning vortex at the center of the insanity.
Another portal.
In the Marsh Lands.
And it’s sucking in everything and everyone around it.
Like a black hole…
My gaze darted to Cami again, my instinct to go to her overriding all reason.
Except she was nowhere to be seen.
Gone.
Vanished.
The only sign of her that remained was a few red ribbons from her hair.
And the subtle hint of her flowerlike scent.
CHAPTER32
CAMI
A Few Seconds Earlier
What the fuck just happened?
I’d seen something on the screens. A portal, maybe? But it hadn’t looked like the one I’d conjured with Vita. It’d… it’d resembled a swirling hole of intensity, threatening to destroy everything around it.
Then I’d been thrown around in my cage like a toy as if the bottom had dropped out of the entire club. I’d been so pissed that it wouldn’t have surprised me if the blast had come from me.
But it hadn’t, and now everythinghurt.
I tried to move, then groaned as pain snapped through my ribs. The scent of ash wrapped around me, making me dizzy as I tried to discern what had happened.
I reached out for the cage bars, hoping to stand, only to realize it had incinerated around me.
Maybe it broke open in the blast?
