Page 124 of Hell Fae Warden
“Shut up and distract me,” I told him as I grabbed the tie on his waistband.
I was just about to rip it undone when a sudden influx of heat and power made me freeze on top of him.
Turning, I found Lucifer glowering down at us. “I didn’t expect the bridal banquet to be your type of foreplay, Camillia.”
Damn it all to Hell,I growled in my head as I worked to scramble off of Ajax’s lap.
Except we were already in Hell.
And I was most certainly damned, because I’d just been caught straddling the Warden while trying to take off his clothes.
Despite endless practice of curtsying to ready myself for this moment, I snagged my foot on Ajax’s pants pocket and landed face-first on the ground.
“I preferred the demented penguin,” Lucifer said as I righted myself.
“Flamingo,” I corrected, only to swallow down my wounded pride when I locked gazes with the powerful King of Hell.
His hard-set jaw and chiseled features were intimidating this close up. His eyes also practically burned with the Hellfire he commanded, assuring me that this wasn’t the time for jokes.
“King Lucifer, Majesty, sir,” I rambled like a moron.
He narrowed his midnight-blue eyes as his dark hair danced around his face. A heated wind unfurled from the bedroom, then settled a moment later.
“As I’ve said, just Lucifer is fine,” he reminded me, then waved toward the bedroom. “I’ve placed what you’ll be wearing on the bed.”
“What I’ll be wearing?” I dumbly repeated as I cinched my morning robe closed.
“You’ll need to get dressed as well,” Lucifer said, ignoring me as he turned his attention to Ajax, who was now standing at attention and adjusting his obvious hard-on. “You’ll be joining Camillia and me at Purgatory to watch the bride trial.”
“Purgatory?” I squeaked with alarm, familiar with the club name since Lucifer had announced he would be there with his Hell Fae later today. “Wait, why? With all the fae?”
Lucifer ignored me again, his intense gaze on Ajax. “I’ve called a car for you. It’s waiting at the front of this wing, so once she’s dressed, escort her to Purgatory. Your job today is to ensure there are no disruptions where Camillia’s concerned, and to stay and guard.”
The Hell Fae King looked at me, his fierce expression making me want to run and hide.
“And you,” he said, his voice brooking no argument. “Don’t forget to wear the coat.”
He vanished, leaving me stunned and gaping at the space he’d just occupied.
Because apparently I was about to be shoved into a car and sent to a club.
A Hell Fae club.
And why would I need a coat in literal Hell?
“We aren’t going to watch the trials here?” I numbly asked Ajax even though I knew that clearly we weren’t.
I just wasn’t sure what all of this meant.
Ajax was obviously as worried as I was, because a new vein had appeared in his neck. “Apparently not. Just… go get dressed, Cami. We’ll talk about it in the car.” He conjured himself a new outfit, one I hadn’t seen in a while.
His original Warden clothes.
An open cloak gave him access to his wand on the inside pockets while heavy boots promised a painful, swift kick if any of his creatures rebelled. Except each item had been upgraded a bit for today’s events.
Rubies and diamonds glinted in the fiery light from the walls, and a leathery whip trimmed with red rested on his waist next to a set of cuffs.
This is bad,I thought.Very bad.
