He guided me into another creepy corridor shrouded in flames and directly to a pair of obsidian double doors. He whispered a few words that I didn’t catch, causing the rock to melt before us.Literallymelt. Like a black waterfall.

My eyes widened at the display, my attention immediately going to the ground. But the liquid rock—or whatever material it was made of—simply disappeared.

And then Melek led me through the threshold.

A sharp snap echoed behind me the moment I stepped into the new area, causing me to whip around with a gasp.

The doors were back in their place.

And we were very much alone in yet another hallway.

“What happened to all the other Hell Fae?” I asked, suddenly uneasy.

“They’re still in the public areas.” He paused as though considering them. “Most of them hold various positions here in the palace. But a few were just visiting. My guess is they wanted to catch a glimpse of Lucifer for reassurance purposes.”

I wasn’t sure what he meant by that last part, nor was I all that focused on those details. It was the first part that had me more preoccupied. “So, we’re no longer in the public area?” I hedged, swallowing.

Then his words about the statue came tumbling through my mind.

“Ty asked for this to be placed at the entry to his personal wing…”

“We’re…” I trailed off, swallowing. “We’re in Lucifer’s personal quarters?”

Melek grinned. “That we are, little angel. Now come along. There’s much to see here.”

The very one who may or may not want to kill me.

My throat suddenly felt very tight, my legs moving beneath me like lead blocks.So this is what it feels like to knowingly walk to one’s execution. Fuck.

Melek had already started walking again, his strides long and confident.

I glanced back at the door behind me.Definitely no way out.

But at least there weren’t more Hellhounds here.

Cursing under my breath, I started after Melek, my heels clacking loudly over the stone floor below. There would be no running in these boots. Not that I knew where to go anyway.

“We’ll primarily focus on Lucifer’s private wing for today,” Melek said as I caught up to him. “There’s just too much to show you in one tour, and I thought it might be best for you to see where you’ll be staying first.”

The tour is in the wing where I’m staying…

I repeated those words in my head, trying to wrap my mind around them.

“But this is Lucifer’s wing,” I said dumbly.

A mischievous glimmer entered Melek’s fractal eyes. “It is.”

“And this… this is where I’m staying?”
