CHAPTER EIGHT

MILES

M iles was sitting at his desk when his phone rang. Looking down he noticed it was his buddy that owned the garage that Olivia’s car was at.

“Hey, Anthony.”

“Hey Miles, I was calling about that car that you had towed in last night.”

“Yeah. What’s wrong with it?”

“Well what isn’t wrong with it would be a better question. Man this car has seen better days and honestly wouldn’t even be worth saving.”

This was what Miles was afraid of. Knowing that his Little girl had been driving around in a death trap made his heart race.

He was even more thankful that when the belt broke last night she had no harm come to her. Miles would forever pray to whatever God was up there for keeping his darling safe.

“Give it to me. What’s wrong with it?”

“Well you know that the timing belt broke, but it also needs new spark plugs, the radiator has a crack in it, worn piston rings, worn brake pads, bad tires. Need I go on?”

“No man, I got it. Basically we either spend a lot of money to fix everything or we just scrap it.”

“My recommendation is to scrap it, but not my call. I know that I wouldn’t ever want my Little girl to ride in something like this.”

Miles grinned at his comment. He had never known for certain if Anthony was a Daddy, but he always triggered his senses. Guess he knows now.

“Okay man. Go ahead and scrap it. Just write the check out to me and I’ll get it to Olivia.”

“10-4. Hey, we should meet up one night and grab a couple beers.”

“Yeah, that sounds like a plan. Just let me know when you have that check ready. Bye”

Pulling up his messages with Liv, Miles filled her in on what was going on.

Miles: Hey Little Bunny. I know you’re at work, but I wanted to update you on the car situation.

Miles: Anthony just called and said that the car needs more work than originally planned.

Olivia: Okay, well give me his number and I’ll call him. Maybe I can work out a payment plan or something or he can just fix the important things and move on.

Miles: Well, I talked it over with him and I told him to scrap it instead because it was going to cost more than the car is worth.

Olivia: YOU DID WHAT?!?

Miles: It’s fine, babygirl. He’s going to send me the check and we can get the money into your account.

Olivia: DON’T BABYGIRL ME RIGHT NOW! YOU CAN’T JUST HAVE MY CAR SENT TO THE CAR CEMETERY!

Miles: It wasn’t safe for you to drive and I won’t have my Little girl driving a death trap.

Olivia: I DON’T CARE WHAT YOU WILL AND WON’T DO! YOU DIDN’T HAVE THE RIGHT TO DO THAT!

Olivia: I have to go back to work now, but we aren’t done talking about this.

Miles: Have a good rest of your shift, Little one. I’ll be there at seven to pick you up.

Chuckling to himself, he put his phone away and turned back to the computer. Maybe he overstepped a little by making the decision for her, but he doesn’t regret it.

Her car wasn’t safe to drive. He would replace it with something much safer. Miles would have peace of mind knowing that Olivia was in a car that she wouldn’t have to worry about.

Checking that he had a few more hours to get through, Miles continued to pour over the spreadsheets from last quarter's reports and counted down the hours until he got to see his Little Bunny.

Miles parked at Ivory Mountain and let Olivia know he was here. A few moments later he saw his Little girl walking out the back door.

He jumped out the truck, walking around to open her side. If looks could kill, Miles would have dropped dead the moment he made eye contact with Liv.

“Hi, babygirl. How was work?”

“Don’t babygirl me. I’m not happy with you at the moment. I cannot believe that you just got rid of my car without talking to me. What kind of a man does that?”

“One who cares about the woman he is with and values her safety above anything else.”

He watched Olivia roll her eyes at his statement and his palm twitched. There weren’t many things that Miles didn’t like, but being disrespectful and eye rolling were on the list.

“I suggest you don’t roll your eyes at me again, Little girl, unless you want to find out the consequences. I don’t tolerate disrespect and eye rolling.”

He could tell that she wanted to test the waters and see what he would do, but thought better of it. Helping her get into the truck, Miles buckled her up and walked around to the driver side to jump in.

“Miles, do you understand just how frustrating it is that you did this without talking to me first?”

“I know that I overstepped and should have talked to you first, but the car wasn’t safe, my love.”

“Ugh, I don’t care that the car wasn’t safe. It was mine and you had no right to do that. I can’t even afford to get a new one right now.”

“That’s alright, babygirl, I’ve already been researching the safest car for you and we can sit down together and talk about it all.”

“Fine. ”

A little while later, sitting down in Liv’s living room Miles waited on his Little girl to finish showering.

He knew that he upset her by overstepping the way that he did, but he couldn’t find it in him to care.

All he cared about was making sure she was okay. He still had this gut feeling that she might be hiding something, but he had no way to back up that claim.

Taking a second to take in the surroundings around him, Miles frowned. There wasn’t a single touch of Olivia in this apartment. At least not in the kitchen and living room.

He knows that she just recently moved here about nine months ago, but he would have thought that by now it would have a little bit of her personality displayed.

All he saw was blank walls, boring furniture and not a single thing that would allude to someone actually living in this place.

Deciding to snoop a little, he stood up and walked around to see if there was anything that could tell him a little bit about his elusive Little girl. The only thing that he saw was a black duffle bag that was sitting by the table near the front door.

He doesn’t know how he missed it last time he was here, but then again he had a lot on his mind considering his Little Bunny had tried to jump out his truck that night.

Making sure that he could still hear the shower, Miles walked over and picked up the bag to look inside.

He doesn’t know what came over him to snoop through someone’s things, but the voice inside his head said that this was something he needed to know.

Unzipping the bag, Miles glanced inside in confusion. Why in the world does his darling girl keep clothes, toiletries, and other small miscellaneous things in a bag near the door.

He has noticed this behavior before in some friends of his who work in public health or in the military. They all keep a go bag of sorts that has everything they could need to survive for a few days if they needed to make a hasty escape.

None of it made sense to him, but he made sure to place all the items back inside the bag exactly how he found it and put it back under the table.

Miles settled back on the couch, his mind running through all the possible reasons that she could have a go bag.

Glancing up at the sound of her walking into the living room, all the air left his body at the image of her standing in front of him. Losing all train of thought, all he could focus on was the beauty standing there.

”Babygirl, you are stunning.”

He watched the blush creep over her face before she turned and hid behind her hair.

”I’m really not, but thank you.”

Miles motioned her over to him and waited to see what she would do. He was trying to take things slow with her, but that was becoming increasingly hard to do.

He was pleased when she walked towards him and stood between his spread knees. Deciding to test the waters a little bit, Miles grabbed her hands, and gently pulled her down into his lap.

There was only a moment of hesitation, before she settled in and laid her head down on his chest. Miles was marking this as a win in his book and right now he needed to count all the wins he could.

“I wanted to apologize, Little one, for my behavior this afternoon. It was wrong of me to handle the situation with your car before talking to you first.”

“I accept your apology, Miles. I understand why you thought it was best to just scrap the car, but that wasn’t your place. You aren’t my boyfriend or husband, so you don’t get to make decisions about my life without consulting me first.”

“Yet.”

“What?” she replied puzzledly.

“I’m not your boyfriend or husband yet. Just like I’m not your Daddy, but I will be one day soon.”

They fell into a comfortable silence as Miles let her process his words. He was ready to take the next step with Olivia, but that would mean having a conversation about what they would expect out of a relationship together.

She still hadn’t confirmed to him that she knew what a Daddy and Little relationship was, but each time he mentioned those words he could see a small look of longing in her eyes. Olivia might not have confirmed it, but they both knew and that’s all he needed.

“I would like you to come spend the weekend with me, Little Bunny.”

“Oh…ummmm, I don’t know if that’s the best idea.”

“Well, why wouldn’t it be?”

“We barely know each other. It doesn’t seem like the smartest idea to spend the weekend in a man’s house I barely know.”

“I can see that, but we both know that deep down your heart knows that I’m a good man and that you would be safe with me.”

Time continued to pass before he heard her whisper out an answer.

“Okay. I’ll come stay the weekend with you.”

Miles barely contained the excitement that came over him. He didn’t want to scare her and risk her changing her mind.

“What days do you work this weekend?”

“I work Friday night and then I’m off again until Tuesday.”

“Great. How about I pick you up Friday night after work and our weekend together can start then? ”

“Well considering I don’t have a car anymore I don’t really have a choice there now do I?”

Miles loved to see her sassy side come out to play. He knew that there would never be a dull moment with his Little girl.

Tickling her sides until she was squirming in his lap, begging for mercy, Miles replied “No, you Little Minx. You will always have a choice. You hold all the power here, babygirl. Don’t ever forget that.”

Miles wanted to make sure that she understood that she has the power in their relationship. He might be the Daddy, but without the consent of his darling girl that meant nothing and she needed to know that.

They continued to just sit there in silence as the sun continued to set. It wasn’t long before he heard the faint snoring sounds coming from Olivia.

It pleased his heart to know that she felt comfortable enough to fall asleep in his arms.

Not ready to let her go just yet, Miles reclined back just a little bit more and closed his own eyes.

He planned to rest for a few minutes before lying her down in the bed and leaving for the night.
