CHAPTER FOUR
MILES
T hursday is finally here and Miles can’t wait to see his Little Bunny again. He has enjoyed getting the opportunity to text with her over the past few days and their conversations haven’t been anything less than amazing. He just wishes that he could get her to open up a little more.
Any time he asks about her past, she immediately shuts down the conversation. Miles couldn’t help but wonder if there was something more going on there, but he was trying not to push too fast for fear that she would run scared.
She was like a scared little bunny, timid and ready to flee at any moment.Miles walked into the coffee shop that Liv recommended they have their date and grinned.
The little mom and pop shop is exactly the kind of place that he expected his Little girl to frequent. He glanced around and didn’t see her yet, so he decided to go ahead and grab a table.
Less than five minutes later he watched Olivia walk into the coffee shop and lost his breath. She looked stunning in her pink babydoll dress, white frilly socks with hot pink converse .
She had finished the look by pulling her beautiful long black hair into a half up ponytail with a sparkly white bow.
Miles slid out of the booth and met her at the counter just as he heard the college age girl behind the counter ask Liv if she wanted her normal order.
“You can add her normal to my tab. I would also like a oat milk latte with vanilla syrup. Could you recommend a pastry?”
The barista looked at Olivia waiting for her to acknowledge that this was okay before responding to his request.
“I personally love the strawberry muffins, but the lovely lady here always gets the blueberry scone. No matter what you choose though, you won’t be upset. Everything here is delicious!”
“That all sounds amazing. Go ahead and add both the muffin and another blueberry scone to the order.” Miles responded by handing over his black AMEX card.
The barista finished ringing them up and told them she would bring their order over when it was done. Placing a hand on Olivia’s back, Miles guided her to the booth he occupied in the back.
“Hey, Little Bunny. I’m so excited to see you today. I’ve looked forward to this day all week.”
Olivia grinned and blushed at him. He loved seeing the blush creep across her face. It was adorable to watch. Especially since she tried to hide her face when it did.
“I’m glad that we could do this, too. Knowing I had this today is what kept me going during my shifts at work. It was really helpful yesterday when I had a combative resident.”
Miles really didn’t like the sound of that. He didn’t like that his Little one dealt with combative people sometimes, but he would never tell her that she couldn’t work there.
Just from the brief conversations they have had about her job, Miles knew that she loved it and the residents she took care of.
“I’m lucky that the hit to my face didn’t give me a black eye this time.”
Halting the growl that creeped up his throat, “I’m glad to hear that, too. I don’t want my Little girl getting hurt like that.”
The appearance of the barista stopped any response that Olivia could have made and Miles decided to continue the conversation.
He was determined to try and pull a little bit more personal information out of her during their time together.
“So, you mentioned that you recently moved to Ivory Mountain. What made you decide to come here?”
He watched her shoulders tense before she took a small breath and relaxed. That action confirmed in Miles’ mind that there was something that she was hiding about her past. He just didn’t have a clue what it could be.
“Uh yeah, I moved here about nine months ago. I don’t know, I just decided one day that I needed a change and picked a spot on the map and well, here I am.”
None of what she said sounded remotely like something a normal twenty-two year old would do. Who just up and leaves everything they have ever known and moves to a town where they know no-one. Something wasn’t adding up.
Deciding not to push farther on that topic, Miles switched gears and started asking her about what her plans were for the rest of the day.
“Oh, I don’t have much planned. I need to make a stop at the store to pick up a few small things and then I’ll just be spending time at the house in my pajamas. It’s been a long few days and I could use the down time to just recoup.”
Miles understood how important it was for Little girls to take care of their mind and body and he was proud of his Little one for knowing when she needed to do that.
He could tell, even under the makeup she wore today, that she had dark circles under her eyes. Those showed him she didn’t always get enough sleep.
That would become one of his goals when she officially became his. His baby needed all the rest that she could get and he would be there to make sure it happened.
Miles and Olivia spent the next few hours just sitting and talking about anything and everything. It was all surface conversations, but Miles knew that he would have to build up trust with Olivia.
It was important that she trust him if he ever thought there was a chance to see the Little that was lurking under the surface.
It pleased him to know his suspicions were true and that she was the Little girl he has been searching for.
Cleaning up their mess at the table, Miles escorted Liv out of the coffee shop.
“I’ve had fun today, Little Bunny, and I would love the opportunity to continue to get to know you.”
“I think I would like that, too.”
Miles grinned at her before bending down to press a small kiss upon her forehead. He loved the small gasp that she made at the action and filed that information away for the future.
He stood in front of the coffee shop and watched his babygirl walk away until he couldn’t see her any longer. Whistling, Miles made his way back to his truck and climbed inside before turning and heading towards his house.
Putting a leash on Diesel, Miles decided to take a walk to the nearest park. It wasn’t often that he had the afternoon free, so he wanted to take advantage of it and allow Diesel to have a chance to be outside and around other animals and people .
Miles was still slowly working on his behavior when it came to outsiders. Diesel has made amazing growth in the last year and Miles would hate for him to fall behind again.
After their walk in the park, Miles settled in for the night. Today had been a great day and he couldn’t have been happier with how things had gone.
Pulling out his phone, he pulled up his messages with Olivia and read back over their previous conversations before typing out a new one.
Miles: Shall we play a game, Little one?
Olivia: What kind of game?
Miles: We can play a round of 21 questions. I can start if you would like.
Olivia: I haven’t played 21 questions since I was probably in high school.
Olivia: Sure lets play lol
Miles: I’ll start easy… #1: What’s your favorite color?
Olivia: You’re telling me you couldn’t guess that lol? My favorite color is pink!! I love all shades of pink and wear it as often as I can.
Olivia: #2: what’s your favorite thing to eat?
Miles: I don’t have a favorite. I’ll eat almost everything if it taste good.
Miles: #3: If you could do anything in the world, what would it be?
Olivia: I think I would become a social worker. I would want to help battered women and children during their time of need .
Miles took a minute to think about what she said. Could this be because someone in her life experienced abuse? Or maybe she grew up in that situation first hand and wants to pay it forward.
Miles: Oh, that’s an interesting choice. Why that particular field of social work?
Olivia: Uhhh.. No real reason. I just think it would be interesting and that I could be a big help to those in that situation.
Miles wasn’t convinced of that answer, but wasn’t going to push much farther.
Miles: Well I think you would make an amazing social worker.
Miles: It’s getting late though, Little one. I think someone needs to get ready for bed.
Olivia: I don’t have a bedtime and I’m not even tired.
Olivia: But if an old man like you needs his beauty rest, well I won’t stand in your way.
Miles chuckled. The Little minx is being cheeky. He loved to see that she felt comfortable enough to joke around with him. It just meant it was another step in the right direction of making her his.
Miles: Ok, you Little minx. You might not be mine yet, but just know that when you are, there won’t be room for negotiating your bedtime.
Miles: You will have a bedtime because Little girls need all the rest they can get.
Olivia: Well it’s a good thing I’m not a little girl. Goodnight, Miles
Miles: Goodnight, Little Bunny and sweet dreams
Miles headed off to bed with a smile on his face. He already knew that she was his, but he is for certain that he’s falling in love with her. He didn’t care if people would say that it’s too soon.
He knew in his heart and mind and nothing would change that. Miles only hoped that it wouldn’t take long to convince her of that, too.
First he just has to get past the nagging feeling that she is still keeping something hidden from those around her and he was determined to get to the bottom of it.
