CHAPTER TWELVE

MILES

A fter Miles put Olivia to bed he slipped into the nursery to make sure everything was in place.

He didn’t know, when he started building it during the remodel, what age his future Little might play at, so he built it to accommodate whatever his Little girl might need.

He was excited to help Olivia explore her Little side. Fluffing the pillow and straightening the throw blanket lying on the foot of the bed, he settled down just taking it all in.

When he bought this house, this room originally was an office no bigger than a closet. Knowing that would never work, Miles took down the connecting wall between the guest bedroom and office and made the space one giant playroom.

He closed off one side and hired a plumber to come and repipe in a bathroom so that there was a space nearby for his Little girl to go without having to leave the room.

Miles had taken a long time picking out all of the details that went into this room.

Looking back, he realizes that he spent more time designing it than he did any other room in the house. Miles wanted it to be perfect though.

He painted the room a beautiful lilac purple and hired a local art student to paint a stunning mural of a lavender field on one wall. She had done a wonderful job bringing the vision he had to life.

Miles ordered from the same online store, one catered to the lifestyle, that Emmett did and picked out a snowy white daybed that could easily be turned into a crib using the hidden rail.

He added on the matching rocker, changing table, bookcase, and toy box that helped complete the look of the nursery.

He had filled the bookshelf with all sorts of Daddy books he could find. Of course he has read every one of them because he never would allow his Little girl to read something that might harm her.

Rae had a blast helping him fill the toy box in the room to the brim with all sorts of toys a Little would love, no matter what age she might be. He might have also done just a tad bit of spoiling on her for all the help she had given.

Emmett wasn’t the happiest when she came home with a new princess dress, tiara, and giant unicorn stuffie.

Who was he to say no to the adorable “Please, Uncle M!” and the pouty lip that she gave. It was quite a performance, honestly.

Miles hoped that this was everything that Olivia would love, but he knew that if she didn’t there would be no hesitation to change it to be what she wanted it to be.

He means it every single time he tells her that there isn’t anything he wouldn’t do to make her happy.

Knowing that everything was in order, he slipped out of the room quietly closing the door behind him. Headed off to bed, Miles wanted to make sure he got a good night's sleep so that he was well rested for the day with Olivia tomorrow.

Waking with the sun, Miles put some workout clothes on before heading down to the basement for his morning run. He always woke up early no matter what day of the week it was.

Sunday’s were his favorite though because it allowed him to rest and recharge for the upcoming work week.

This Sunday would forever be his favorite because it would be the start of what he hoped to be many future Sundays spent with his Little Bunny.

An hour later, Miles turned off the treadmill and headed back upstairs. Diesel was finally awake for the morning, so he let him outside to run before heading to shower.

He didn’t want to scare her away with his man stink before he even had a chance to make her his. Miles was standing at the kitchen counter pulling out the ingredients he needed to make omelettes when Olivia finally made her appearance from the guest room.

“Good morning, princess!”

“Good morning, Miles.”

She slipped into the chair across from him and gave him a small sweet smile. All that Miles could think was how he got so lucky to have such a beautiful woman like her.

Leaving her to play on her phone, he turned to the stove and started preparing the pan he would need to make their omelettes.

“I hope omelettes are okay for breakfast. I was going to add some peppers, onions, cheese, and ham in there. Anything you aren’t okay with or allergic to?”

“No allergies, but please no onions. I don’t like those. Everything else is fine.”

Nodding he went back to cooking humming to the low music he had playing in the background.

“I figured we could continue our conversation from last night over breakfast. Is that okay with you?”

He waited for an answer but it never came.

“If it’s not that’s okay, Little one. I don’t want to rush you.”

Nothing still. It was so quiet in here that you could hear a pin drop from the other room. Turning to face her, he didn’t like the look he saw on her adorable face.

“Everything okay, Olivia?”

“Huh? What?”

“I asked if everything is okay?”

“Uh…yeah. Sure everything is fine.”

“Are you sure? It doesn’t seem fine. You can talk to me about anything, you know that right?”

“Yeah, everything is fine, Miles. Just got a little distracted. Did you need something?”

“I asked if you wanted to continue our conversation from last night over breakfast this morning.”

The blush that crossed her cheeks made him want to grin. He loved seeing her blush.

“Yeah, I would like that.”

Giving her a smile, Miles turned back to the stove finishing up their breakfast. He couldn’t get the image of her face out of his head.

She looked almost terrified and that was never a look he wanted to see on his Little girl.

The gut feeling that she was hiding something was still lurking in the back of his mind and her reaction was sending up all kinds of warning signals.

Trying to push that behind him, Miles plated the food and urged her over to the breakfast nook in the corner of the room. Going back to pour them both a glass of milk before settling in to eat.

Not wanting to rush her to have this conversation, he let them settle into a comfortable silence and he waited to see what she would do. The last thing he wanted to do was cause her to be unsettled.

“Sooooo, uh I thought about what you asked me.”

“Mhm, how did that go?”

“I think I would like to try.”

“Try what Little Bunny? I need you to be one hundred percent honest here. I need you to say the words.”

He watched her take a deep breath. Miles had never felt so proud of someone before this moment. He knows what she is asking for is huge and is leaving her vulnerable.

“I want to see what it’s like in a Daddy/Little relationship. I want you to help me explore my Little side. I don’t know much about her, but I want to find her with you.”

“I would love nothing more than to be with you and to help you with that. It would be an honor.”

He watched her nod her head before looking away to continue eating her food. Letting silence fall around them again, Miles turned back to his own food and mentally prepared for how he wanted to spend today helping Olivia.

Deciding it would be best to start by letting her see the nursery and just letting her explore it he could hopefully get an idea of where she might fall with her Little.

He didn’t want to push her to start playing at a certain age, but would rather her find it herself with a little bit of guidance.

The buzzing of her phone pulled him from his thoughts. Looking up just in time to see the look of fear fall upon her face, before she schooled her features.

That was twice in less than an hour that she looked terrified at something on her phone. Miles didn’t like that at all and wanted to get to the bottom of things.

“You could have answered that call, babygirl. I wouldn’t mind.”

“No, it’s okay. It wasn’t anything or anyone important.”

“Are you sure? It might have been important.”

“No, it wasn’t. This is a delicious omelette. You will have to show me how you made it. Mine never turn out this yummy.”

Knowing that she was deflecting, Miles let her change the topic. This wasn’t the end of it and since it was clear Olivia wasn’t going to tell him anything, he knew that it was time to take things into his own hands.

“Thank you, Bunny. I would love to show you how to make it, but I’ll have to let you know it’s nothing special at all.”

Finishing his breakfast and gathering their plates, Miles put everything into the dishwasher before turning back to her.

“Would you like to start today?”

“Uh. I didn’t think that far. I guess we can though.”

“If you aren’t ready to do anything, of course we can wait.”

“No, that's okay. I want to.”

“Okay, well I would love to show you something.”

He watched her face morph into one of curiosity, Miles couldn’t wait to show her everything he had been building for the past few years.

“Okay? I’m intrigued. What is it?”

“If I told you it wouldn’t be any fun. Come on! Let's go find out.”

Pulling her up from the chair, Miles walked them down the hallway towards the door that was on the other side of his. He had wanted the nursery to be close to his bedroom.

“I want you to know that there’s nothing behind this door that you need to be scared of. I want you to go in with an open mind and just let your heart show you where to go.”

He watched her take a deep breath. Opening the door and stepping to the side, Miles waited for her to take the first step into what he knew would be her future nursery.

The gasp that he heard fall from her lips was adorable. Especially when she clasped her hand over mouth trying to hide the noise she made.

“Go on, Little Bunny. Go explore.”

Miles watched as she made her way around the nursery touching and looking at everything. Her eyes darted all around as if she didn’t know where to start first.

Turning back towards him, Miles started to worry when he saw tears forming in her eyes.

“Oh, Little one. What’s wrong? Is it too much?”

She shook her head at his question.

“No, it’s perfect. Everything that I had ever thought or possibly dreamed of is right here in this room.”

Letting out a whoosh of air, Miles walked over and gathered her in his arms.
