CHAPTER FIFTEEN

OLIVIA

H er heart felt like it was breaking in two. Nothing could have prepared her for the look of despair that crossed Miles’ face at her words.

She kept chanting to herself that everything was for a reason. It was for the best, now he can’t get hurt.

Olivia glanced down at the text that crossed her phone moments before she ripped Miles’ heart out and stomped it into the ground.

Unknown: Twinkle twinkle little whore. Come and open up your door.

He was here. She knew it deep in her heart that he had found her. Olivia knew better than to think that he was ever going to let her go.

It was time for her to run, but she had to take care of things first. She couldn’t just leave things the way that they were.

She only hoped that she had time to do it all before David finally showed up for her.

Right now though, the only thing that Olivia could do is crawl into the hole in her bed and pretend like this day never happened. That was the only thing she had the mental capacity for.

Tomorrow would be the first time she would see Raelyn since she broke up with Miles and Olivia wasn’t looking forward to it. She had been dodging all of her text messages all week, but there was no ignoring her at work.

She was going to want answers and Olivia didn’t have any to give her. The past few days have been spent trying to think of reasons why she did what she did to Miles in between crying her heart out.

Olivia didn’t think the pain of this would ever go away. She wasn’t sleeping and wasn’t eating. She really had become a shell of the person she was.

It was clear that she wasn’t taking care of herself and Olivia knew that if Daddy knew about it, her bottom would pay. Only after he nursed her back to health of course.

Dragging her butt out of the bed, she crawled across the floor to her bathroom. Walking took energy that Olivia didn’t have, but she was starting to smell and there was no way that she could go to work like that.

This whole week would go down in history as the worst one yet. This was harder than all the times that David had put her into the hospital. All she wanted to do was numb the pain.

Sitting on the floor of her shower, Olivia cried and cried about all the dreams she had, but would never get to do. She wasn’t free and she never would be.

Long after the water had turned cold, she finally turned off the shower and forced herself to get out. Pulling on the counter, Olivia stood and looked at herself in the mirror.

Her hip bones were more defined than they were before, the dark circles had come back with vengeance, and the weight of the world that was on her shoulders could be seen in the ghostly look on her face.

Making her way back into bed, she crawled in and was almost asleep when the buzzing of her phone caught her attention.

Miles: I’m not giving up on us. You are my world and I’m not going to let you go without a fight.

A fresh wave of tears poured down her face. Daddy had been texting her a few times over the past few days. All words of strength and love even though she didn’t deserve it.

Olivia knew that she loved him, but she would never get the chance to tell him that.

Turning her phone back over, she ignored the buzzing again and drifted off to sleep.

The next morning came way too fast as Olivia silenced the alarm coming from her phone. Groaning, she laid there until she had no option but to get up or she would be late for work.

Not that she really cared about it anymore, but Olivia still had her pride and she didn’t want to forever be known as the worker who didn’t care and left them in a lurch.

Kissing Nibbles on the nose, she headed out the door for what she knew would be a hard shift.

Pulling into Ivory Mountain, Olivia spotted Emmett dropping Rae off at the employee entrance.

She had really hoped that she would have more time to mentally prepare for her, but that apparently wasn’t going to be the case.

It was time to face the music and it was better to do it now than later. Getting out of the car she walked towards the waiting couple.

“Hey guys.”

“Hi Liv. Everything okay?”

“Yep. Everything is just peachy. I’ll catch you inside okay?”

Not waiting for Rae’s response, she turned and walked towards the entrance as fast as she could. That still didn’t stop her from hearing the words that Raelyn muttered.

“Daddy, she looks so sad. We have to do something, they are both suffering.”

“No, Little duckling. We aren’t getting into the middle of their relationship. Do not hound her today about it or you will be getting a spanking when you get home. Am I understood?”

She didn’t hear anything else as the door shut behind her. Olivia had to thank Emmett for that. He knew how bad his wife could be and that might just have been her saving grace for this shift.

Throwing her stuff into the locker she shared with Rae, she took off out the door before anyone could say anything. Grabbing her assignment, Olivia took off down the hallway with her head down.

Lunch time had come and gone without a single interaction with Raelyn and she knew that was killing her best friend. Olivia’s heart broke even more knowing that she was hurting everyone.

Deciding it was time to face the music, Olivia went and hunted down Rae. Finding her sitting in the breakroom, charting, she sat down beside her and laid her head on Rae’s shoulder.

“Are you finally ready to talk?”

“Not really, but I miss my best friend.”

“Liv what’s going on? And don’t lie to me. ”

“I can’t tell you Rae, but know that everything is going to be okay. I just can’t do it anymore.”

“You would tell me if it was something serious right?”

“Sure. I don’t want you to worry about it though. I’m okay, I’m sorry for hurting your friend though.”

She felt Rae give her hand a squeeze. “You do know that he’s not going anywhere, right.”

Olivia couldn’t let that seed of hope be planted. Hope only leads to heartbreak and she has had enough of that to last her another lifetime.

“He really should just move on. I’m not the girl for him.”

“I don’t think you believe that anymore than I do. You’re scared and I can see that. I know that we don’t really talk about what has happened to you that makes you scared of committing to things, but he is someone worth committing to.”

She couldn’t continue to talk about this or she was going to be racing towards another breakdown.

“Anyways, I need help putting Ms. Georgeann to bed. Care to help me? She’s been in a pretty feisty mood all day and I’m not ready to get my butt kicked again.”

“Of course. There’s no one else I would rather get my butt kicked with than you.”

Olivia wrapped Rae in a hug. She held on just a second longer wanting to memorize this moment. There wouldn’t be another one and these memories would be the only thing that would keep her company in the future.

They stood making their way to the door as Olivia’s phone buzzed. Stopping, she pulled it out and her heart sank again.

Unknown: Tick Tock. Tick Tock. The time is coming soon, Darling. We will be together again like it should be.

“You good?” she heard Rae call out from the doorway .

“Yeah, just fine. Let's go.”

The rest of their shift passed in a blur as they worked together to get everything done. Walking out hand in hand she watched Rae take off across the parking lot towards Emmett and smiled.

At least one of them gets to be happy. Giving a small wave she made her way towards her own car and climbed in before driving home.

Twenty minutes later, Olivia was standing at her door fumbling with her keys when she felt something cold and hard pressed against her back.

“Caught you, Darling. It was naughty for you to run from me like that.”

Olivia froze. His voice sent a chill up her spine. Trying to think fast about how she was going to get out of this one, she cleared her throat.

“David. H-how did you find me?”

“Did you really think that I wouldn’t keep tabs on my property? You can’t be that stupid Cassidy or should I call you Olivia now since that seems to be what you like going by. How’s Nibbles by the way?”

The words she tried to speak were caught in her throat. She couldn’t focus on anything but battling the panic that was bubbling up inside her. Nibbles, he must have done something to her.

“Unlock the door, Cassidy, and don’t even think about making a scene.”

Her hand shook as she tried to unlock the door. She dropped the keys and bent to pick them up when she felt the gun that was pressed to her back dig in a little harder.

“You stupid cunt. You can’t do anything right. Move!”

She felt herself being shoved to the side before she had a chance to catch herself .

Tripping over her feet she slammed into the floor. Taking a deep breath she pulled herself up and tried to slide out of his reach.

“Don’t even think about it.”

She watched David unlock the door before his hand wrapped around arm pulling her inside.

Olivia wasn’t prepared for the smack that crossed her cheek as David backhanded her.

“Oh, Cassidy, how I have missed you. Did you miss me?”

“Why would I ever miss you, you pathetic joke of a man.”

David slammed her head against the wall.

“It seems that this time away has made you forget the lessons that I had worked so hard to teach you. Shame really, but I’m going to enjoy teaching them to you all over again.”

Pain exploded across her side as David threw her against the table dragging her across it by her hair.

Olivia tried to hold back the cry of pain knowing that it would only encourage more from him.

He released his grip on her hair just enough that she was able to slip out of his reach.

Darting towards her room she slammed the door in place before sliding her dresser in front of it.

The menacing laugh she heard before David pounded against the door shook her to the core.

“Oh, so she wants to play. That’s fine, we can play Cassidy. Just remember how much I love to win.”

She heard him start to kick the door trying to push it open. There was nowhere for her to go in here. She was trapped and the only way out was the window.

Olivia threw it open and looked down below. Living on the fourth floor of her building had never been a problem until right now. That was a long fall down, but what was her alternative?

David busted the door down just as Olivia was slipping out the window. A hand grabbed her foot and dragged her back inside as she screamed and tried to kick away from him.

“You are going to pay for that, bitch.”

Olivia fell to the floor and before she had a chance to scramble away she felt the steel toe boot that David wore connect with her abdomen. Gasping for air, she rolled on her hands and knees and tried to crawl away.

She felt a sharp prick on her neck. The last thing she thought was about how much she loved Miles and hated that she never got the chance to tell him as her world faded to black.
