CHAPTER SEVENTEEN

OLIVIA

W hy was her head pounding and everything felt foggy inside? Something was wrong, but Olivia couldn’t put her finger on it. She didn’t get to think about it long before her world faded back to black.

Coming to again, Olivia fought against the groggy feeling that was trying to pull her back under.

She needed to find out what was going on and she couldn’t do that if she continued to let the darkness win.

Without opening her eyes, she tried to take inventory of her surroundings.

She was lying on something hard, almost metal like. Trying to move her hands, she quickly noticed that they were tied behind her back.

The rope was digging into her flesh and every time she moved them tears welled up in her eyes.

Trying to keep her breathing even, she continued to listen and put things together in her mind.

Olivia could tell she was in a car or van because she would hear the sound of traffic and feel the road rumbling beneath her. Cracking one eye barely open, she took in her surroundings.

She was in the trunk of a car being thrown around like last week's garbage. Groaning, she tried to shift into a better position, but nothing worked.

Her shoulders were screaming at being locked in this position, but there was nothing she could do. Not that it mattered as her world faded back to black and she succumbed to the pain.

When Olivia came back to reality for the third time her head felt less foggy, but hurt no less than it did before. She noticed that the noise of the road had faded. The car must have stopped, but yet she was still trapped in this trunk.

Straining to hear for any sort of sound that would give her any indication of where she was, Olivia wasn’t prepared for the bright light that flooded her eyes as the trunk lid was lifted.

Groaning, she had no way of protecting her eyes from the onslaught of the sun. Olivia tried to turn her head towards the floorboard when she heard a laugh from above.

It was that moment that all the memories began flooding back to her. David had found her and she wasn’t sure how.

She remembered him asking about Nibbles and so she had to assume he did something to her and that broke Olivia’s heart.

“Come on, get out of the car, Cassidy.”

She felt a hand wrap around her arm again as he yanked her from the trunk. Her shoulder screamed in pain.

If he pulled any harder there was a chance he would dislocate her shoulder and cause permanent damage.

Olivia fell to the ground as she tried to quickly crawl out. Landing with a thud, she screamed out in pain as her head hit the ground and her arms and legs were scraped across the rocks.

Her world was becoming spotty by the seconds, but Olivia fought with all her power to stay conscious .

Her life depended on it and if she had any chance of making it out alive she needed to keep her wits about her.

“David, please just let me go.”

“You won’t ever get to leave me. The only way out is six feet under, though you still might end up there anyways. Now get up before I leave you here for the coyotes to have their way with you.”

With a grip on her hair, David dragged her to her feet. Stumbling behind him, they made their way towards an abandoned building.

Where did this come from? David had never mentioned having something like this before.

Unlocking the sliding metal door, he shoved Olivia inside. She stumbled before righting herself. As her eyes adjusted, her heart sank.

This is what nightmares were made of. In the corner of the room there sat on the floor a dirty and ratty mattress.

Beside it a small metal bucket that had seen better days. The scariest part of it all was the heavy metal chains that she saw attached to the wall and were lying on the bed.

David shoved her on the mattress and made quick work of strapping her hand into the cuff before untying her.

At least he was smart enough to secure her first before removing the ropes, though it’s not like she had the energy right now to run even if she wanted to.

Plus, she knew it was stupid to run without any sort of plan. Olivia had no idea where they were and running would only mean that she would get lost and probably die out there.

Hope was a stupid thing to have, but she couldn’t help to feel it blossom in her chest. She doesn’t know how many days have passed since David showed up, but she hoped by now that Miles knew she was gone.

Her Daddy would come for her, she knew that. She just hoped that he was still her Daddy and cared enough to come after her since she broke his heart and ripped it into shreds.

“If you’re a good girl, I might take it easy on you. But Cassidy, you have a lot of making up to do for running from me.”

Olivia felt him forcefully grab her chin and tilt her head up. Her eyes widened as he watched his lip descend towards hers.

Before her mind could catch up to what her mouth was doing, Olivia spit right in David’s face. The blow to her cheek knocked her back onto the mattress.

Her cheek throbbed and vomit bubbled up in her throat. Swallowing it back down she turned towards where David stood with a menacing look on his face.

“You’ll pay for that, you stupid bitch.”

Olivia watched David turn and head towards the door leaving and shutting her world in darkness. Unable to fight the tears any longer, she let them silently fall.

Olivia cried for all the things that she had done to end up in this place. Then she cried more knowing that she wouldn’t be seeing Miles any more.

Curling up in a ball on the dirty ratty mattress, Olivia thought back to the first sleepover she had with Miles.

Letting her mind drift from one memory to another, she let herself relax for the first time since getting kidnapped and fell asleep.

Olivia didn’t know how much time had passed when the metal door creeped open. Sitting up she watched David as he entered .

Pulling a chair over from across the room, he settled it in front of her before plopping down.

Her mouth watered at the smell of food that he had in his lap.

She couldn’t remember the last time she ate, but the gnawing pains in her tummy told her that it has probably been awhile.

“Cassidy, so nice of you to wake and join me. Tell me, are you ready to submit and be the wife that I trained you to be?”

“I will never submit to you again. You are a weak man who preys on those who are smaller than you. A real man wouldn’t have to hit and beat his wife to get her to do what he wants.” Olivia croaked out past a dry and scratchy throat.

“Oh? Is that what Miles did? Showed you just how much of a real man he was. Tell me Olivia, did he touch what was mine?”

Olivia kept her mouth shut. She knew better than to rise to the bait that he was dangling in front of her.

Sighing, David spoke. “See Olivia, I was hoping that you would realize your mistake and wouldn’t be so goddamn hard-headed, but it seems like that isn’t the case.”

David unwrapped the bag of food in his hand and began to eat the burger he pulled out. Her mouth watered at the smell, but she refused to give him the satisfaction of begging.

Olivia watched as he ate the entire sandwich in front of her before tossing the wrapper to the side. Her stomach protested at the lack of food, but she pushed those thoughts to the side.

“I guess you will be ready next time. You be good now, Cassidy. Oh and screaming does you no good. No one will hear you out here.”

Her heart sank. How did he know that she spent what felt like hours yelling for someone to come and save her.

Olivia had yelled for so long that her throat was raw and even if she wanted to give him another barb, her throat hurt enough after she spoke the last time.

David stood again, his eyes running over her hungrily before he turned and walked back out the door. Her whole body shook at the gleam in eyes as he traced over her worn out and tired body.

Olivia knew that she could withstand all the mental and physical abuse he was putting her through, but there was no way she could fight him off if he decided to push himself on her.

Knowing that there was nothing else for her to do, Olivia turned and curled into a ball and went to sleep.

What felt like minutes but could have been hours later, she woke up with a fright. She thought that David had been kidding about the coyotes, but it sounded like one growled right in her ear.

Sitting up slowly, she turned and pressed her back against the metal wall and waited for them to come and end her suffering, but they never did.

She must have fallen asleep again, because the next time Olivia opened her eyes, she could see the smallest amount of sun shining through the cracks in the walls.

Once again, David walked in and sat down on the chair with a bag of food in his hand. Olivia still had no clue what time it was or how many days had passed, but she was still holding onto the tiniest amount of hope that she had.

She knew that Miles would be coming for her, Olivia just hoped that she would still be alive when he got here. She felt so weak as the time progressed that she wasn’t sure she was going to make it out of this alive.

Knowing it was her best chance at survival, Olivia had decided to play the game that David so desperately wanted to play with her .

She had to give him what he wanted or he would continue to starve her and follow through with all his threats.

“Good morning, Cassidy. Did you sleep well?”

Olivia kept her mouth shut. No need to answer him on such trivial questions such as those. It was better to save what little energy she had.

“Are you done playing the games, Cassidy, or should I make a visit to that man of yours and teach him a lesson or two about touching things that aren’t his?”

Her heart raced. She had no doubt that David would follow through on his threat. Olivia couldn’t let that happen.

“Or maybe I should go pay a visit to the stupid little friend that you made at work. She sure looks like she would be fun to break.”

“Please no. Leave them alone. I’m done, I’m sorry.”

“What was that?”

“I’m sorry David. I should have never ran from you. Please just leave them alone and I’ll come with you and be the best wife you have had.”

“Mhm, such a good girl. It’s about time you came to your senses.”

Once again, she clamped her mouth shut at the vomit that wanted to spew out. Though at this point it was more stomach acid than anything.

Being called a good girl by David was nothing like when Miles murmured to her how she was being such a good girl for him.

Olivia watched as David moved towards her and pulled a key out of his pocket. She had figured out early on that no amount of pulling at the wall or twisting and yanking at the wrist cuff was going to set her free.

The only thing it had done was cause her to bleed. Every once in a while if she moved wrong she would reopen a wound and it would bleed and throb. Eventually, she would pass out and it would be a brief relief from the pain.

David unlocked the cuff and pulled her to standing. Her world spun and she felt as weak as a newborn babe.

Stumbling forward, she crashed into David’s chest. Olivia felt his hands slide up her body and she shivered at the contact.

Turning, they made their way towards the door when she heard the slightest sound outside. It didn’t sound like an animal like the previous ones did.

Guessing that David wasn’t paying too much attention since he didn’t seem to be concerned with the noise, she clamped her mouth shut.

Maybe help was here after all. Olivia had spent the past little while straining to hear all sorts of noises in the night as she waited for the animals to come and get her. So she had no doubt that she heard something or someone that wasn’t an animal.

Just as they reached the door and opened it, she felt herself being yanked back and the door being slammed again.

“Shit,” she heard David mumble under his breath. “What did you do?” he roared.

“I didn’t do anything. How could I when you had me chained to the wall like an animal.”

Just as she finished her sentence, the door was flung open. She tried to make a run for it and she felt a sharp prick against her stomach. Olivia hadn’t even noticed that David had pulled out a knife.

“David, it’s over. There’s no way for you to escape.”

Olivia didn’t recognize that voice, but she didn’t care. Help had come and all she needed to do was hold on long enough for them to get to her.

“No! It’s not over! You don’t get to have her.”

“That’s where you’re wrong, David. She isn’t yours. ”

Gasping, Olivia knows that voice!

“DADDY!” She yelled out as loud as she could, not caring who heard her call him that.

“Daddy’s here, Little Bunny. He needs you to hold on for him just a little bit longer, okay? Then he’s going to take you back home where you belong, with him.”

“I’m so sorry, Daddy.”

“I know you are, babygirl. Just hold on a few more minutes, okay?”

“Okay. I love you, Daddy.”

“Oh Olivia, Daddy loves you, too.”

The next few moments happened in what felt like slow motion. She was starting to become weaker the longer she stood there.

Days without food and water would cause that. There was noise all around her, but she couldn’t make out any of the words.

What she wasn’t prepared for was the stabbing white hot pain she felt in her side before she was tossed to the ground.

Looking over as her world faded once more, her eyes connected with the cold dead ones of David’s before everything was black.

The last thought she had was at least she told Miles that she loved him right before she died.
