CHAPTER NINE

OLIVIA

O livia doesn’t know how she ended up in her bed last night. She remembered sitting with Miles on the couch just talking and not much after that.

She must have fallen asleep on him. How embarrassing! Olivia hopes that she didn’t do anything crazy in her sleep.

Before she got a paci, she would suck her thumb. She has a habit of going back to that sometimes.

Given how her luck always seems to go, there was a good possibility that she did just that last night. She pulled Nibbles closer, it seems like Miles made sure to put her within reach of her.

“Nibbles, I don’t know what I’m going to do.”

“It’s not safe for me to get close to someone else, especially a man who I have no chance of being with. I just can’t seem to let him go just yet.”

Olivia rolled her eyes at Nibbles' exasperated sigh. She thinks that Liv is worrying too much, but how could she not. David was still out there .

“He invited me over this weekend to his house. What if he expects something from me?”

The pinging of her phone cut off the sassy response she knew Nibbles would have for her.

Miles: Good morning, Little Bunny. I hope that you slept well.

Olivia: I slept decent for once.

Miles: I’m happy to hear that. I just wanted to double check the time that you need to be at work tomorrow.

Miles: I can come pick you up and take you in.

Olivia: Oh! No need to do that. Rae works tomorrow, as well. So Emmett and her are going to come and get me.

Miles: Okay, Little one. You get off at seven right?

Olivia: Yes, Sir!

Miles: Sir is okay for now, but eventually I hope you will call me Daddy.

Olivia blushed at his text. This man was almost too good to be true. It was stupid for her to hope that she would one day get to call him Daddy, but that didn’t stop her heart from longing.

Miles: I will be there tomorrow at seven to pick you up. Don’t come out of the building until I let you know that I am there.

Olivia: And if I do? Whatcha going to do?

Miles: Test that limit and find out, Little girl. You don’t want to push Daddy on a health and safety direction.

She didn’t miss that he called himself Daddy. This isn’t the first time and she can’t deny that she didn’t love the sound of it.

Olivia: I think I’ll hold off on that for now.

Olivia: I’ll see you tomorrow Miles.

As much as Olivia wanted to test the limits that he has set for her she is also scared of what would happen. It’s not like her to want to break rules.

Broken rules meant a dangerous lesson when she was still with David. Though Olivia doesn’t think that the lesson she would learn with Miles would be anything in comparison to what David put her through.

They weren’t the same man and she didn’t for a second believe that Miles would hurt her the way David had.

Clearing her head, Olivia decided to lay back in bed and read a little bit before getting up for the day.

As she opened up her book, another text came through. She smiled until she saw who it was from.

Unknown: Run run as fast as you can. You can’t lose me, I’m the boogie man. I’m coming for you, Cassidy.

With shaking hands, Olivia closed out the messages. It had to be him, but how had he gotten her number?

“Nibbles, I’m scared. I don’t know how he found my number.”

“I don’t know what I’m going to do. ”

“No no no. I can’t go to the police. I don’t know who I could trust.”

There had to be something that she could do. She knew that going to the police was out of the question. Olivia would never know the reach that David had and she didn’t want to risk it.

“I just need something to take my mind off things, but what can I do?”

“No, Nibbles. I can’t call him. He’s at work and doesn’t need to be bothered by me.”

“Oooo, that’s a good idea. I’ll text Rae and see if she wants to get together. Maybe we can convince Emmett to have a sleepover tonight. I don’t really want to be alone right now.”

Grabbing her phone again, Olivia pulled up her texts.

Olivia: RAE!! I HAVE AN IMPORTANT QUESTION TO ASK YOU!

Raelyn: WHAT IS IT?! ALSO, WHY ARE WE YELLING?!

Olivia: Ooops lol. Uhhh, do you think we can convince your Daddy that a sleepover would be a good idea?

Olivia: I could really use some girl time tonight.

Raelyn: Um, well I’m not grounded any more and we do have to come pick you up tomorrow anyways for work.

Raelyn: I’ll ask…brb

Knowing that Emmett would give in to his fiancée's request, Olivia hopped out of bed and began looking through the closet .

She would need to pack clothes for tonight and work tomorrow, but also for this weekend.

Her stomach turned again thinking about staying this weekend at Miles house. She was conflicted by the emotions running through her.

One part was excited at the opportunity to spend time with him while the other was screaming at her to run the other direction.

Glancing over at her phone, she noticed that Raelyn had texted her back.

Raelyn: Daddy said yes! I had to promise an early bedtime tomorrow night, but it was totttalllllyyyy worth it.

Raelyn: I’m excited to have my best friend here!! I just got fancy new alcohol markers and Daddy says we can color for a bit before bedtime.

Liv grinned at her best friend's antics. This was exactly what she needed. Turning back to the closet she grabbed out all the clothes that she would need for the next few days and put them all in her magenta suitcase that she scored one weekend at the second hand shop in town.

Shooting off a text to Rae that she would be on her way in a few minutes and ordering a taxi, Olivia grabbed Nibbles and headed towards the door, turning off the lights on her way.

Dashing to the waiting car as fast as her little legs would take her, which wasn’t really fast since she was five foot two and had tiny legs, Olivia slid in and was on her way towards Raelyn’s house for what she hoped would be the best distraction that one could find.

Enjoying coloring time with Rae, Olivia was caught off guard by the question that came from her bestie's mouth.

“So, are we finally going to talk about the elephant in the room?”

“What do you mean? I don’t see any elephants in here besides your stuffie silly.”

Olivia hid her smirk when Rae let out a dramatic sigh. While she definitely didn’t want to talk about what brought her here tonight, she couldn’t help but poke at her friend just a tad.

“You know that Ellie isn’t who I was talking about. Can we talk about why you looked so shaken up when you got here this afternoon?”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about. Everything is fine Rae. You’re seeing things.”

“You forget that I know you pretty well, Liv. So I know when something isn’t right with my best friend.”

Olivia knows that Rae isn’t going to let up and she was going to have to come up with a way to convince her that nothing was wrong and she was going to have to do it fast.

She had never been good at coming up with lies on the fly, but she hoped that today maybe that would be different.

“I’ve just got some things running through my mind. Nothing bad and everything is okay Rae. Pinky promise.”

“What’s running through your mind? Maybe it’s something I can help with. Or maybe just talking about it will help clear some things up.”

“Oh, it's nothing really. I’m just overthinking about this weekend.”

“Wait…what’s this weekend? ”

Oh shoot. Olivia forgot that she hadn’t mentioned anything to Rae yet about Miles inviting her over for the weekend.

She had to give credit to Emmett though because Olivia was sure that Miles told him about his plans. Which means he managed to keep that from his Little girl and that was a miracle.

“Uh…can we just pretend I didn’t say anything? There’s totally not going to be a sleepover this weekend at Miles’ house. That would be crazy!”

“EEEEEKKKKK!!!!! YOU’RE HAVING A SLEEPOVER WITH MILES?”

“Shhhhh!! Calm down Rae or you’ll wake the whole neighborhood.”

Rae rolled her eyes at Liv before settling down again.

“Sorry...sorry. So, Miles invited you over for the weekend and you didn’t tell me?”

“I mean I was going to. I just didn’t know the right time.”

“Well whatever. That doesn’t matter. I’m so excited to hear about this weekend! Do you know if he has anything planned?”

Olivia shook her head. She wished that Miles would have given her some type of clue, but when she mentioned it earlier he told her that he wanted to keep it a surprise.

Who was she to ruin a man’s surprise, so she let it go and continued to let him have his fun. Olivia didn’t hate surprises, she just liked knowing what was going on. The unknown was scary to her.

“Either way, I think it’s going…”

Raelyn was cut off by the buzzing of Liv’s phone. Glancing down, her heart began to race and it felt like the walls were closing in.

Unknown: I wonder if your little friend knows the secret that you’re hiding.

Unknown: Just know Cassidy, I’m always watching just waiting for the time to take back what’s mine.

“Okay, there’s no way that look was just nerves about this weekend. What is it?”

“Oh it’s nothing. Must be a wrong number or something.”

“You wouldn’t look like you’re about to throw up if it was just a wrong number.”

“It’s fine Rae, there’s nothing going on.”

“Okay fine, but if there’s something that you are worried about you know that you can always tell me. If I can’t do anything, maybe Daddy or Miles can. Promise that you will say something if it keeps going on.”

Before Olivia could respond she heard a voice clear from the doorway.

“Girls, it's time for bed. You both have an early morning tomorrow and a long day at work.”

Liv had never been more grateful for Emmett’s timing. Leaning over she gave Rae a hug before Emmett picked her up and headed out the room.

“Daddy did you know that Miles and Olivia are having a sleepover this weekend?”

“I did know that, Little Duckling.”

“What! And you didn’t say anything?”

“It wasn’t my secret to tell.”

Olivia couldn’t hear Rae’s response, but knowing her best friend it wouldn’t be anything less than sassy.

Raelyn enjoyed poking at Emmett and she wasn’t going to let it go that she was the only one not in the know about the weekend plans.

Grabbing Nibbles, Liv crawled into the bed in the playroom and pulled out her phone.

Olivia: Goodnight Miles, I can’t wait till tomorrow.

Miles: Me either, Little Bunny. Me either.

Miles: Be a good girl and go to sleep now. Night night.

Olivia turned off the phone and kissed Nibbles goodnight before drifting off to sleep.
