CHAPTER SIX

MILES

M iles was excited for game night at Emmett’s place tonight. He didn’t always get to make it, but when he did it was always a blast to hang out with his best friend and his Little girl. Raelyn could be a handful at times, but she always brought a source of entertainment.

Making a mental note to stop at the store on the way to grab some candy for both girls, Miles continued to work on the spreadsheets computer display in front of him. Most of the time he enjoyed being the CEO of Tech Port, but today isn’t that day.

It wasn’t that long ago that Emmett had to make the decision to lay off some people, so that meant everyone else was pitching in to help pick up the slack that was left behind.

He wanted to make sure that it was all done so the weekend would be free for him to do whatever he wanted.

He’s hoping that he can convince Liv to go out on another date or maybe spend a day with him.

He would love the chance to see her Little, but he had a feeling it would take a lot of coaching to bring her out .

Before he knew it, the clock read five p.m. Shutting down his computer, Miles slipped his jacket back on, grabbed his phone, and headed out of his office. Knocking on Emmett’s door he took a step into the office.

“Hey man! Game night at six?”

“Yeah, Rae has already been texting me begging for me to hurry up and come home. She’s apparently already picked out a bunch of games for us to play tonight.”

“Of course she has. The Little brat doesn’t know how to have patience.”

“Don’t I know it man. It’s been a lesson she’s been having to learn the hard way recently.”

“Anyways, I’ll be there after I make a stop at the store. Gotta grab some things.”

“Don’t think I don’t know that what you need to grab is candy for the girls.”

Miles chuckled as he turned and headed out the office. He had been sneaking candy to Raelyn since he met her. It was one of his favorite things to do.

It wasn’t a secret from Emmett though. After the first time he brought her candy, Miles received a text later that night from Emmett cursing him cause he was dealing with a hyper Little who didn’t think her bedtime was important that night.

So they continued to let Rae believe that it was a super special secret between them, but Emmett now had a heads up when his Little girl was going to be a bigger handful. Miles couldn’t wait to start the tradition with Olivia now, as well.

Thinking of her, he pulled out his phone to shoot her a text.

Miles: Hey, sweet girl. Not much longer before I get to see you.

Olivia: Not at all! I’m running behind though. I got lost in my book and ignored my alarms.

Miles: That’s alright, Little one. Take your time, we will be together soon.

Miles: Before I forget, what’s your favorite candy?

Olivia: Twix!

Miles: Good to know. Be careful driving to their house. See you soon, babygirl.

Whistling, he made his way to the truck and headed towards the grocery store by Emmett’s house.

He could feel that this was going to be a good night and he couldn’t wait to spend the evening with all of the people he cares about most.

Glancing at his watch again as he listened for knocks at the front door, Miles noted that it was almost six-thirty. He was starting to be worried that Olivia changed her mind about coming tonight.

He was trying to be patient and think optimistically, but that was proving to be difficult. Turning back towards the board game opened on the table before him, Miles realized that it was his turn. Grabbing the dice he tossed them on the table just as his phone rang.

Looking at it he noticed that it was Liv calling him. Swiping to answer it Miles stepped away to have some privacy.

“Hey, Little Bunny. What’s up?”

The line was silent for a moment and Miles thought that maybe she butt dialed him. Before he could speak again, he heard the sweet voice of his angel .

“Miles.”

He didn’t like the sound of her voice. It was as if she was scared to speak too loudly.

“Olivia, what’s going on? Where are you babygirl?”

“Miles…I broke down on the side of the road. I’m scared.”

“Okay baby, can you tell me where you broke down?”

“Uh, I don’t know. It’s dark. I remember turning past the old farm house off of highway 24.”

Miles knew exactly what road she was on and it wasn’t any place he wanted his Little girl to be.

“Okay, sweetheart. I’m coming. You stay in the car and lock your doors. I’m on my way now.”

“Okay, Miles. Can we just stay on the phone? I don’t want to be alone.”

“Of course, babygirl. I’ll let Emmett know what’s going on and then I’ll be headed your way. You just sit tight.”

Miles walked back into the living room. Explaining to them what was going on, Miles grabbed his keys and headed out the door with the promise that he would be careful and would bring her back.

The drive to her felt like it took forever, but was probably less than fifteen minutes. Seeing her car on the side of the road, he hung up the phone, and jumped out of the truck.

Liv got out of her car and Miles couldn’t help but pull her into his arms. He stopped short when he saw the flinch that she tried to hide.

“Babygirl?”

“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to do that.”

“You know I would never hurt you, right?”

“Uh, I didn’t. I do now, I guess. I promise I didn’t mean anything by it. Just a habit is all.”

Miles didn’t like the sound of that at all. Why would she have a habit of flinching? Who harmed his Little girl?

He knew that she wouldn’t answer any of the questions he would ask, so he bit them back and cleared them from his mind.

“I just want to take a quick look at your car before we go, okay?”

She nodded her head at him and opened the door again to pop the hood of the car. He rounded the hood of the car and immediately saw what the problem was.

It looks like the squealing noise that he heard the other day after fixing her tire was the timing belt. It seems like it finally snapped.

He was grateful that she didn’t lose control of the car. It could have been much worse. He let out a deep breath before slamming the hood of the car and making his way back to her.

“Okay, Little Bunny. Your car isn’t going anywhere tonight. I’ll call a guy I know and have him tow it to his shop to do the repair it needs.”

“But…I, uh…that’s not necessary. I’ll figure it out.”

“Oh, I apologize, Little girl. I didn’t mean that as a question. That was a statement. I will be taking care of all that because that’s what a Daddy does.”

Her eyes widened and he realized what he said. There was no taking it back now. It was better that she knew now because that wasn’t something that he would ever be able to turn off.

He was a Daddy and that wasn’t something he was going to hide from her.

“This isn’t the time nor place to have this conversation, but we will. I am a Daddy and from the reaction you had to that word, you know exactly what that is.”

Guiding her to the truck after she grabbed her purse from the backseat, Miles helped her crawl into the passenger seat before helping her buckle. They made their way back towards Emmett’s house in comfortable silence.

Even with the hiccup earlier, their night was great. Once getting back to the house, Miles reheated up some pizza for Olivia that she ate while they played a few rounds of Candy Land.

Miles never thought that his Little girl would be competitive, but it seems like she is and doesn’t like to lose. It was so cute to watch her get worked up over the game.

He has been watching her rub her eyes for the past thirty minutes letting him know that she was reaching the point in the night where he needed to call it and take her home.

Miles had no doubt that his darling girl would fight him on this, but she had no other way home.

“Okay, my Little one, it’s time to tell your friend goodnight and gather your things to go.”

“Noooo!! It’s not time for me to go. Plus I don’t have a way home anyways. I guess I can just sleep here tonight.”

Miles' words were cut off by Raelyn clapping her hands.

“Yes!! It would be a girls night! We can stay in the nursery and build a fort to sleep in.”

“Nope, that’s not happening, Little girl. You are grounded and know that you can’t have anyone over for a sleepover.” Emmett said, crushing the dreams of both girls.

“Besides, I’ll be taking Olivia home. So once again, gather your things and tell your friend goodnight. We need to get you home.”

Miles held back the chuckle that bubbled up at her sigh. He could tell that his Little girl didn’t want to do that, but she didn’t have a choice .

It was getting late and Little girls needed to go to bed early so that they were plenty rested.

Liv would need to get used to it now because she would have a bedtime when she becomes his. That would only be one of the rules that she would have.

Miles was what some would call an overbearing Daddy. He would never say that he was strict, but rather he was thorough with keeping his Little Bunny safe.

After helping her into the truck and climbing in the driver seat, he pulled out his phone ready to enter her address.

“Okay, Little girl. Tell me where I’m headed.” He could tell that she didn’t want to give up that information.

“You have two options, Little one. You can either give me your address so that I can drive you home or you can come home with me and stay in my spare bedroom. Your choice.”

She shook her head and quickly rattled off her address.

Miles didn’t like the address she gave him. That was in the worst part of town, even worse than the shoebox that Raelyn had lived in.

He would be doing something about this as soon as she became his. No way would he be okay with his Little Bunny living here any longer than she needed to.

Following the GPS, he pulled out of the driveway and headed towards the place that his Little girl calls home.
