Story: Reluctantly Rogue
Purpose.
Happiness.
The noise from the dining room has gotten louder and we all exchange looks as we turn toward the door.
“So…I guess we have to go back in there,” Torin says. He doesn’t look ready for that at all.
Jonah’s arm slips around my waist. “Actually, Your Highness, wedon’t.”
Torin looks at him. “What?”
“Youare the royal prince and princess.” Jonah looks down at me. “We’re just the behind-the-scenes staff.” He inclines his head toward the door. “I think that mess is above our pay grade.”
I start giggling.
Abi looks up at Torin with a stricken look.
Torin looks…resigned. “And where do you thinkyou’regoing then?” he asks.
Jonah’s hand slides down to my ass and he squeezes. “The kitchen, I think. I’m in the mood for a late-night snack.”
I blush, but also eagerly nod my agreement.
Torin rolls his eyes.
But he takes a step toward the door that will lead back into the dining room. Abi is gripping his hand tightly.
They open the door and I lift on tiptoe to peer into the chaos.
Everyone is on their feet, talking, gesturing, and arguing. Except for two people.
Iris is sitting at one end of the table, her legs crossed, typing into her phone, seemingly oblivious to what’s going on around her.
Henry is lounging at the other end of the table, tossing what look like grapes into his mouth one by one.
I look up at Jonah. “Kitchen?”
“Yes,” he says, turning me toward a door on the opposite side of the room. “I guess I don’t need to remind you who you belong to now.” He lifts my left hand to his mouth and presses a kiss to my fourth finger. “Though I do need to get a big, shiny ring on this finger.”
I smile up at him. “Oh, it wouldn’t hurt to jog my memory every once in a while.”
His return grin is almost predatory. “It’s a good thing you don’t have to be quiet about it anymore.”
Chapter34
Iris
You need to find Cian’s girl.
I’m texting Henry even though we’re both in the dining room at the palace surrounded by the new O’Grady chaos.
No one can overhear this conversation.
And I don’t really feel like getting up from my chair, where I have a piece of some amazing Danish layer cake in front of me, anyway.
I watch Henry pause in tossing grapes into the air and glance at his phone. He doesn’t even look in my direction. His fingers move over the screen.
Cian’s girl? You mean his Cinderella??
