Story: Cat Sloan is Swirling
Elena shrugged.
“I can see you make her happy.”
“That’s all I want to do,” Elena said.
Hattie nodded and studied Elena for a moment. Then she turned and left the store.
“Is everything okay?” Cat said, walking up beside Elena.
“Yep.” Elena kissed Cat softly.
“What was that for?”
“For being you. Ready to go?”
Cat nodded and wondered what Elena and Hattie had talked about. She was sure that kiss was real.
“Are you excited to see Tara’s home?” Elena asked as she drove them to the lake.
“I’ve heard it’s incredible.”
“I can’t wait to see it. So you’d never met Tara before that day she came into the store with Krista, but you know her wife?” Elena asked.
“Yes, Lauren is a realtor and my firm helped her with some of the more expensive properties around the lake.” She glanced over at Elena before continuing. “Hattie heard about the book event with Tara. I kind of rubbed it in her face because I know she’s such a fan,” Cat said.
Elena chuckled. “Who can blame you?”
Cat glanced over at her again and grinned.
“Did you talk about the house?”
“She’s still thinking about it,” Cat said. “I’m losing my patience.”
“Hang in there, babe,” Elena said, giving Cat a grin.
Cat chuckled. “She wasn’t an asshole to you, was she? I didn't want to leave you with her.”
“No. Is this where I turn?” Elena asked.
“Yeah, it’s not far now.” The last thing Cat wanted to do was think or talk about Hattie. Tara had given her bookstore quite the opportunity and she wanted the event to be a success.
“Wow,” Elena said as she pulled into Tara and Lauren’s driveway.
“Ditto,” Cat said. She smiled at Elena and raised her brows. “I’m glad you’re here with me.”
“There’s no place I’d rather be.”
They walked up to the front door, but before they could ring the bell Lauren opened the door.
“Hi!” she said with a friendly smile.
“Hi, Lauren. It's so good to see you,” Cat said.
“You, too. I miss your tax help with my clients. It gave us a reason to catch up.”
Cat smiled. “Lauren, I’d like you to meet Elena Burkett.”
Lauren extended her hand and Elena shook it. “You have a beautiful home,” Elena said.
