Story: Cat Sloan is Swirling
Cat shrugged. “We’ve come to your bar a couple of times, but you haven’t been there.”
“I like her,” Cory stated.
Cat couldn’t keep from smiling. “I like her, too.”
“Where is she? Doesn’t she come in every day?”
Cat nodded. “She’ll be here.” She smiled and realized Elena coming into the bookstore every day was something she could count on. The thought made her heart skip a beat.
The door into the room opened and Elena came striding in. “Hey there. I found you,” she said with a big grin aimed at Cat.
Cat was enjoying the purposeful steps that landed Elena in front of her. She imagined this was her commanding walk when entering a classroom. With Cat they were usually strolling among the shelves or to whatever their destination might be. “Here I am. Did you lose me?”
Elena chuckled. “Hi Cory.”
“I was wondering where you were. I need your help,” Cory said. “Both of you,” she added, looking at Cat.
“What’s up?”
“Tonight my team plays Vi’s and it would really be nice if you two could come cheer me and CeCe to victory,” Cory said.
“CeCe’s playing too?” Cat asked.
“Yeah, we’re short a couple of players,” Cory replied.
Cat looked up at Elena and raised her brows. “Do you feel like a little volleyball tonight?”
“Sure I do. I’m the Sloan sisters’ biggest fan,” Elena said.
Cat and Cory laughed. “With as much time as you spend here you may become an honorary sister,” Cory said.
Cat smiled. I don’t want her as my sister. Cat sat up straight and couldn’t believe that thought slammed to the front of her head.
Elena furrowed her brow. “Are you okay?”
“Yep,” Cat said, slapping her legs and getting up. “I’d better get back out there. Jessica is going to wonder what happened to me.” Cat hurried to the door and took a deep breath.
Elena and Cory followed Cat out of the back room. “Thanks. I’ll see you tonight,” Cory said, exiting through the entrance to CeCe’s salon.
Cat wasn’t sure what just happened, but after a couple of deep breaths she felt like herself again. She chuckled as Cory left the bookstore. “This should be interesting. I’ve never known Cory to have an enemy. She’s mentioned that Vi thinks of her that way.”
“How long do you think it will take for Cory to wear her down?” Elena asked. “Want to bet?”
Cat laughed. “You’ve come to know my sister pretty well. I think she’s already done it.”
“You do?”
“Yep. Cory’s been practicing at the gym and I’m sure she’s found ways to run into Vi.”
Elena giggled. “This should be fun. Another Sloan sister falling in love.”
Cat turned to Elena and tilted her head. “You make it sound like a spectator sport.”
“We’re watching CeCe fall in love right before our eyes. Don’t you think so?”
Cat nodded. “I guess.”
“Cory may be right behind her.”
