Story: Cat Sloan is Swirling
“Wow, your sisters are good,” Elena commented.
“Yeah, like I said, they got the athletic ability,” Cat said.
“That’s not everything,” Christine commented.
“Who is the dark-headed woman that glanced our way a few times?” Elena asked.
“The one Cory keeps looking at?” Cat chuckled. “That’s Vi. She also sells liquor and thinks she’s Cory’s nemesis.”
“Hmm, I don’t think so,” Elena said.
Cat laughed. “Exactly. They’re perfect for each other but haven’t realized it yet.”
“Sounds like someone else I know,” Christine mumbled.
Elena furrowed her brow and snuck a glance at Cat who shook her head. She must be talking about CeCe and Alexis, Elena thought.
The first game ended with a loss for Cory and CeCe, but they came right back in the second game to even the match.
“Who do you think will win?” Elena asked as the teams started the third and deciding game.
“Cory will win,” Cat said. “She may not win this volleyball game, but believe me, she’ll win.”
Christine chuckled. “She’s right.”
“Is this the Sloan sisters cheering squad,” Alexis said, plopping down next to Elena. “Do you think they can pull it out?”
“We’ll see,” Christine replied.
“We have a mutual friend,” Alexis said to Elena.
“Oh?”
“Yes, Victoria Stratton. I ran into her the other day and was telling her about Cat’s bookstore and I don’t remember how your name came up, but it did.”
Elena smiled. “I haven’t seen her in ages. I think it’s because she spends all her free time with Shelby.”
Alexis chuckled. “I think she wants to spend all her time with Shelby. That’s why they started a business together.”
“They do great work,” Elena said. “I’ve sent some of my former students her way and she’s found them houses.”
“That’s how CeCe got her house. I love her place,” Alexis said.
“Please tell her hello if you see her again.”
“Maybe you’ll run into her at the bookstore. When I explained Cat had any sapphic book you could want, she said she plans to check it out.”
“Thanks, Alexis,” Cat said.
“I love your bookstore. Hey, we should all meet at Cory’s bar some evening.”
“Let’s do that,” Elena agreed.
“Uh, oh,” Cat said. “This doesn’t look good.”
Vi jumped up and spiked a ball over Cory and just past CeCe’s outstretched arms.
“Oh, no. They lost,” Alexis said, getting up and going down the bleachers to console CeCe.
