Story: Cat Sloan is Swirling
“Yeah, I think it was CeCe telling Lauren you and Elena are in a fake relationship to rid you of an ex,” Tara explained.
Cat stared at Elena, but neither of them said anything.
“Um, that’s what everyone thinks,” Cat said.
“But it’s obviously not true,” Tara said.
“Obviously?” Elena winced.
Tara chuckled. “Yes, to me and Lauren it is. Do you not remember the last time you were here?”
“Of course we do,” Cat said, reaching for Elena’s hand. “That’s when we found out this wasn’t fake for either one of us.”
Tara gave them a bright smile. “I didn’t say anything at the bookstore, and Lauren and I figured we were probably the only ones who knew.”
“Thank you. We haven’t told the others yet, but we’re going to,” Elena said.
“There is such a connection between the two of you that it was obvious to us. I’m thinking your sisters and friends believe you because why wouldn’t they? We’re just getting to know you, so…”
“You knew,” Cat said. She looked over at Elena. “We helped each other through a pretty rough time and as we became friends?—”
“You fell in love,” Tara said, interrupting her. “I want to hear more about this, but right now you’d better get down on the dock before the sun sets. And by the way, I’m really happy for you both. Once you tell everyone, please let me know because I’m going to tell Krista Lovers Landing isn’t the only magical place where people fall in love.”
Cat and Elena both chuckled. “You are so right,” Cat said.
“Go on,” Tara said. “I don’t want you to miss it.”
Cat and Elena made their way down to the dock while Tara and Lauren entertained the others on the patio.
Once they were settled just as before with their legs dangling over the edge, Cat reached for Elena’s hand. “Didn’t you want to tell me something after the event?” she asked.
“Oh, yeah. But first, Hattie seemed more relaxed,” Elena said.
“She agreed we should sell the house and even offered to take care of it. She happens to have a friend who’s a realtor.”
“Uh, do you think you can trust her to do that?”
Cat nodded. “We hadn’t been happy for a long time and she finally admitted it to herself. She also apologized for the way she handled things. It’s over and she gets it.”
Elena nodded. “Are we still moving your stuff this weekend?”
Cat smiled. “Yes we are!”
Elena let out a relieved breath. “This is going to be so much fun.”
“It already is,” Cat said. “Now, what’s so important?”
“Well, I’ve been thinking,” Elena began. “I enjoyed working on the book signing so much and it really brought a lot of traffic to the bookstore. What if we had some kind of event every month? It doesn’t have to be a book signing, but something with authors and readers.”
“That’s a great idea. I love it.”
“Also, since I’m at the bookstore all the time anyway, how would you feel about me being your event planner and coordinator?”
Cat gave Elena an appraising look. “Are you asking for a job?”
“I think I am,” Elena said with a huge smile. “I don’t expect you to pay me or anything like that.”
“Since you’re there anyway,” Cat said with amusement.
