Page 32 of Wanna Play A Game?
After tense silence, she softly says, “Oh.”
I run a hand through my short, cropped hair.
Cali goes to stand. I reach out to help her. She seems to have an internal battle with herself. Then, she takes my hand.
A zip of electricity shoots through me at her touch. I ignore it and help her up.
“You should eat more.”
“Got any alcohol?” She laughs awkwardly.
“No alcohol.” Sawyer’s voice makes both of us jump. He’s standing in the hall again. He still looks a little haunted.
“Fucking creeper,” I mutter.
“Jesus Christ. Didn’t your mom teach you that spying is rude?” There’s less bite in her tone this time. “Along with kidnapping.”
Sawyer shrugs. “My house. My rules.”
The hatred flares in her eyes again. “That is just so beyond fucked up, you—“
I clap my hand on her shoulder and whirl her around. She winds him up like no one’s business, and I think she’s had enough for tonight. I shove her toward the fridge. “Eat more, then you’re going to bed.”
She tosses a look my way that’s meant to be nasty, but just comes across sexy. Jesus, I think I’ve lost my mind. I only just met her, and I both can’t get enough of her and can’t get rid of her fast enough.
She opens the fridge. “Is any of this drugged?”
I look at what we have. Ryder prepped most of it. My gut pangs. I miss him. “Nope.”
She eyes me. “You had to check?”
Sawyer laughs, sitting down on one of the bar stools. “I’ve been known to spike a thing or two. Sue me.”
“I’ll do more than sue you if you drug me,” Cali says.
Sawyer groans and grabs his dick. “Like attack me? Fuck me? Come for me? So suggestive, Sleeping Beauty. Maybe I’ll come fuck you while you sleep tonight.”
I snap my glare at Sawyer. He ignores me completely.
I turn back to Cali, and her cheeks are flushed a pretty pink. She sees me watching, then makes a show of picking some food. She makes me take a bite before she eats it herself, but when she does eat, she shovels it down like she’s starving.
I feel a pang of guilt. We’ve been treating her like an animal. Worse than an animal.
I shoot another glare at Sawyer. He grins at me and winks.
Jesus. Despite the haunted look, Sawyer hasn’t looked this alive in months.
Cali eats until she’s full, and I sit there and watch her. She demands I taste each piece of food, and I do. This woman is clearly terrified, but full of fire. Where did she get that from? Why does she throw up walls left and right? Does she have anyone at home? A boyfriend?
I glance at Sawyer. He’s fully caught up in watching her, sitting still as stone.
I swallow. Sawyer is fully obsessed. Not that I blame him. Both of us love brats. We love the fight. The adrenaline. The powerplay. We’ve played with a few together before, years ago. Both men and women, but every other time, they’ve left at the end of the night.
And Cali doesn’t get to leave at the end of tonight. In fact, she has a body bag with her name on it.
I hate that he’s drug us both into this. I know why he’s fucking with me. He found a weakness of mine that he’s exploiting. Seeing how far he can go with it. The question is, why is Sawyer doing this? Just revenge? I look at him again. He’s still staring at her with blown pupils.
Oh, this means trouble.
