Page 123 of Wanna Play A Game?
There isn’t much talking. Both men tend to me, and I allow myself to relax fully. Fuck. Everything feels almost perfect.
Almost.
For the first time, I feel like I’m missing something from our group of three. I lift my head to look for Cali. I catch a glimpse of her in the shadowed hall.
I drop my head again, content. She’s here. Peace washes over me. This is how I want it to be. All of us together, happy.
I know she’ll fight it. But I won’t let her. I’ll force her to be happy with us. She’s ours, and we’re never letting her go.
Chapter 60
Cali
At first, I think Sawyer is going to say something about me creeping on them. But he doesn’t. He just lays back down on Ryder’s lap. The men continue in low conversation, oblivious to me being here. Miles laughs at something, his eyes crinkling up, and I can see the side of Ryder’s face lift in a tiny smile. I don’t think I’ve ever seen them look so happy. So peaceful.
After our run, I hopped in the shower. Miles was gone when I got out, and I found him here. I couldn’t see everything that they were doing on the kitchen floor, but I heard it, and it made all the blood rush to my pussy.
This must be what they looked like before I got here. Happy.
I finger the silver circling my neck. I didn’t miss how Ryder tensed up when I walked in with Miles and how Sawyer’s body language changed when he saw Ryder’s change. And I have no doubt that if I walked into the living room, everything would change right now, too.
I swallow. It’s painfully clear that despite Sawyer saying I’m his and that Miles won’t let me go, I don’t really have a placehere. I change things. I change everything. I’ve never been forced to be a fourth wheel before but damn…I don’t like it.
I take a step back into the hall.
Last night was a bust. I made a mistake. I didn’t know where Ryder was, and I ruined my chance to leave.
Tonight will be different. It has to be. For myself and for them.
Chapter 61
Sawyer
Once the pain pills set in, I get up to help Ryder with meal prep. Miles joins us, too, snacking on all the foods Ryder has out.
Ryder wants to throw the chicken away. Miles tells him no and looks up the food safety rules for keeping food out.
Ryder still tries to throw it out.
I spot a few bottles of wine on the counter with the rest of the groceries.
“Hey man,” I snatch them up. “Put this away.”
Ryder gives me a weird look. “I was going to.”
“No, I mean…we can’t have these out. I’ll put them in the basement.”
Ryder puts the cheese down. “Enough with the fucking basement. We have cabinets for a reason.”
I look through the bags to make sure I didn’t miss anything. “I’m detoxing Cali.”
Miles looks at me funny. “What the hell?”
Anger fills me at even having to voice the words. I snap, “I don’t want her to get this.”
Miles looks taken aback.
“Sorry.” I sigh and run a hand over the top of my hair. “I just…try to keep this away from her.”
