Page 116 of Wanna Play A Game?
“What were you doing?” He nods at the computer.
I fumble, looking for an excuse. “I just wanted to…Sawyer said I could…”
Ryder arches an eyebrow, watching me struggle. Finally, I cross my arms and glare. “What were you doing spying on me?”
He steeples his fingers. “I wasn’t the one spying, Cassie.”
“It’s Cali.”
“Right.” I catch a tiny smirk before he falls back into his indifferent look. “You have rules against getting on electronics.”
“How do you…” I start.
His lip curls up. “They’re my boyfriends, too. They talk to me, too. Not just you.”
Too? Does he think we’re dating? “We’re not…” I pause. Because if the situation wasn’t so fucked up, it absolutely looks like Sawyer, Miles, and I are dating. Damn, for a second there tonight, I felt like we were, too.
I clear my throat. “We aren’t…a thing.”
Ryder says nothing, continuing to look at me. “Why are you here?”
“I was kidnapped!”
“So you have no feelings for them?”
“No!” Emotions swirl through me, tightening my stomach. What the hell is wrong with me?
Ryder’s voice lowers to a dangerous octave. “Really? Because either you have feelings for them, or you’re leading them on, on purpose.”
My gut clenches. I don’t like how he looks at me like he can see right through me. “Leading them–what? What are you talking about?”
The cold blue light of the computer falls over his face. “They’re obsessed with you. I’ve never seen them act like this with a woman before.”
Strange warmth curls through me.
Ryder leans forward. “What are you doing to manipulate them?”
Manipulate them?I’mthe one being manipulated! “I’m not!” I snap. “How, exactly, do you think I’m doing that?”
Ryder eyes me. “That’s what I can’t figure out.” He cocks his head slightly. “Either you’re playing a game, or you think you really like them.”
I grit my jaw.
Ryder shakes his head. “I thought we talked about that. You’ve known them for all of what, a few days? How do you know you actually like them? They kill for sport. You don’t really know them.”
“I never said I like them!” I sputter.
He leans forward. “What’s Sawyer’s favorite book? What does Miles do to decompress?” Ryder stands, suddenly much, much taller than me. “What do they do when they’re scared? Mad? Sad?” He stalks toward me.
“I…” I back away closer to the door.
“Answer me, girl,” he barks.
“I don’t know!” My throat tightens.
“That’s right. You don’t know.” He leans toward me, his lip curled.
My back hits the back of the door. I shouldn’t have fucking closed it.
