And the winner is ... moonstone!

“How have you been?” Lauren asked.

“I’ve been good. Really good,” Malcom answered, then filled her in on everything that had happened since their last conversation after he’d vandalized Monroe’s headstone.

“How did it make you feel when Martin gave the watch to you? To realize Monroe had kept it?”

“I was pleased to know it hadn’t ended up in the garbage, but he only wore it a few times, so despite saying he loved it, I don’t trust that he did.”

“Then why would he have kept it in a safe? With other valuables?”

“I don’t know.”

Lauren leaned back against the loveseat.

“You know, when I was a little girl, I gave my mom a pair of earrings for her birthday. They were dangly and sparkly, and the prettiest earrings I’d ever seen.

I thought they were real gemstones—although they obviously weren’t—and my mom said she loved them, but they never got worn.

A few years ago, I asked her why, and her response was that she could only wear sterling silver earrings, because anything else made her ears become irritated and sore.

But she kept them in her nightstand until the day she died, because they were precious to her. ”

“Are you trying to say my watch was precious to Monroe?”

“I’m just saying maybe he didn’t wear it very often because his expensive watches fit more with his image, which was clearly very important to him, but he kept your watch in a safe place, along with your brother’s book and his wedding bands.

Who’s to say he didn’t take it out often, to look at it and hold it? ”

“Or maybe he never did.”

“Or maybe he never did,” Lauren repeated.

“But it’s not something you’ll ever definitively know, so this is an opportunity for you to choose to see it in a positive light, instead of a negative one.

You can choose to think he kept it there because it was precious to him, even if he didn’t make it known to you. ”

“I can, I guess. But, that doesn’t change how I feel about him. It doesn’t make me think he really loved me.”

“It’s okay for it to not really change anything—it’s only meant to give you a positive alternative in regard to the watch. And since you don’t know his reasons, or which scenario is true, why not believe the one that has better emotions attached to it?”

“Not a bad point.”

“So … what does your life look like going forward, without Monroe in it?”

He told her about wanting to go to culinary school, then opening a restaurant, but it was a big step and he was a little nervous about it, still.

“It’s okay to be nervous—even afraid—but don’t let it cripple you, or keep you from doing it.”

“I know. It would just be a giant step in another direction, and I’ve never done anything like that before.”

“Sure you have.” When he just blinked at her, she said, “Your relationship with Jules and Evan was definitely a giant step in another direction. Which means—”

“I should go to culinary school and then open a restaurant.”

With a smile, Lauren leaned forward, and gave him one of her patented, It’s time for a lesson , look. “Have you ever heard of manifestation?”

“Sort of, but pretend like I haven’t.”

“Okay, well, it’s basically the act of attaining something, or attracting a desired outcome, through focused thought and intention.

First, you decide what you want, believe you can have it because you deserve it, and that it’s possible.

Then you close your eyes and visualize what it looks like in your mind.

” She gave him an encouraging look. “So, why don’t you take a few moments and try to visualize your dream restaurant? ”

Malcom closed his eyes and thought about the restaurant he’d passed on his way home after reading his ‘Fuck You’ letter.

He began to picture how it would look inside, the color of the table cloths, the food he would serve, the customers who would fill the space, and when he opened his eyes, he asked, “Is … that it?”

“No.” Her look turned to one of amusement. “I want you to do this every day. And then when you’re done, focus on what you’re grateful for and as you go into your day, sort of release that gratitude into the world, and trust in the Universe to figure out how to manifest your dream for you.”

He nodded, because what was he waiting for? He wasn’t getting any younger, and he didn’t need to make any more money.

It was time to start manifesting, hard.

When the session was done, she had him choose another crystal, this time with his eyes open, and he ended up picking a milky blue stone that looked almost iridescent in the light.

“That’s moonstone,” Lauren told him, before musing, “Interesting.”

“What do you mean ‘interesting’?”

“Moonstones are known to be stones of inner growth and strength, as well as an emotional stabilizer, reducing stress and providing calmness. It’s also known for enhancing intuition and promoting inspiration.”

Malcom nodded, although he didn’t think that was overly interesting.

“It’s also a stone of ‘new beginnings’. It’s a great stone for embarking on a new journey, or traveling to a different country, and is said to bring luck, success, and good fortune during your travels.”

Well, that part was pretty interesting, he had to admit, as he held it up and watched it shimmer in the light.

“It’s called moonstone because of it’s moon-like glow, which is called ‘adularescence’.” She gave him a warm smile. “It’s a good choice.”

Lauren then walked him to the door, surprising him with a hug. He didn’t know if she hugged all her clients at their last sessions, but he found himself filled with comfort at the contact, and when they parted, his eyes were prickling a little.

“Be well,” she told him, before adding, deadpan, “And try not to forget anything you’ve learned here.”
