Page 70 of Hell Fae Captive
Shaking my head, I resumed my journey toward the cells, convinced he was fucking with me just to delay the inevitable.
Which meant he had done something to Camillia.
Something I wasn’t going to like.
“She’d better be alive,” I muttered at him.
“Who?”
“Camillia.”
“Your desired bride?”
I bristled. “I already told you that I don’t want a bride.”
“Ah, but I think you want her.” He kept pace beside me with ease, his hands tucked behind him as we moved along the burning thwomp tree line toward the portal. “Pretty little angel, isn’t she?”
Those words just proved even more that he’d visited her. “You really can’t leave things alone, can you?”
“I’m sure I don’t know what you mean.”
“Right,” I drawled, pulling my wand out to open the portal. “She’d better be unharmed, Melek.” Because it would be my ass on the line if she wasn’t.
“Perhaps you shouldn’t have left her unguarded,” he offered as he trailed behind me through the shimmering dungeon entrance. This one took me straight into my quarters, not down the long stairs.
Melek glanced around with interest, his fingers running over my bed.
“Stop,” I told him. “Go back to your evening flight.”
“I would, but this intrigues me more than my own thoughts. And I’m in need of a mental distraction.” He gestured toward my bedroom door. “After you, Warden.”
My jaw tightened in irritation.
Melek was one of the few beings in this paradigm that I couldn’t command. Which meant he was coming with me whether I wanted him to or not.
Fucking Hell Fae Prince.
Ignoring him, I pushed out into the hallway and immediately cloaked myself in a heat protection spell. I did not share the enchantment with Melek. Although, he appeared to be fine even though he wore gray dress pants and a cream-colored button-down shirt—one of his preferred outfits.
I couldn’t feel his magic but assumed he’d done something to guard himself against the warmth.
Cami would absolutely be feeling that heat now.
And I hadn’t even left her with water.
I’d also left her unguarded because I’d wanted to escape her.
Yeah, I’m a dick, I decided, irritated with myself not just for my actions but also forcaringabout said actions.
I couldn’t afford to feel anything for this girl.
Yet I couldn’t fight the relief I felt at finding her unharmed in her cell.
Well,mostlyunharmed.
She was drenched in sweat, the fabric of her dress clinging to her skin as she attempted to sleep on the rug. My heart panged at the sight of her trembling, not from cold but from something inside her mind.A nightmare.
Gritting my teeth, I glanced at Melek. However, he no longer stood beside me.
