Page 40 of Hell Fae Captive
His eyes landed on me.
And then the bastard smirked.
It was just like the asshole to be amused by my unease. I was a fucking badass and he knew it, but put me in a dress and heels, and I was a nervous wreck.
Landing my fist against that sturdy jaw would feelsogood right now. Or using his body as a shield while I hid from the view of the crowd. Maybe I’d do both.
But in reality, I waited my turn like a good little captive, because I knew it wasn’t my moment yet. The key to my survival rested in unraveling the deal my parents had struck.
Something that I had hoped the unending law book would help me with.
It hadn’t yet. But I still had a lot to read.
The crowd roared again as the girl in front of me was called, leaving me alone.
And then I was next.
My heart thundered in my chest as my mind raced for a way out of this.
Perhaps I could negotiate a new deal. Or—
“Item Number Sixty-Six!” the deep voice boomed.
My gaze flashed up as I sucked in a breath.
Everything inside me screamed to run, but the thought of Ajax smirking at me hardened my resolve not to let anything faze me. I lifted my chin, straightened my spine, and walked into the bright light of the moon. It illuminated all the girls who were already in position on the field.
A Hellhound growled beside me as he led me to my spot, his teeth gnashing in obvious irritation. I risked a glance and recognized the Hellhound I’d stabbed with silver after he’d tried to abduct me.
Oops. “Glad you recovered,” I told him, not really meaning it.
His lip curled into a snarl. “Don’t worry, pet. I’ll be repaying that favorverysoon.”
My stomach twisted at the thought, yet my disobedient mouth lifted into a smile. “Can’t wait.”
Yes, Cami. Taunt the already angry beast. That’s intelligent.
Before he or I could even begin to react, a boom sounded from the stands, drawing our focus up to a platform set in the middle of the stadium.
I supposed the area could be considered thebox seatsof the arena, as it boasted a prime location at the center and jutted out in the front. But rather than being shrouded in glass like those in a typical sports auditorium would be, this area was lined in a shimmering light that parted slowly to reveal a set of thrones.
Gasps sounded down the lines of females as a shirtless male with chiseled features stepped forward. The armored plates on his calves and shoulders glistened menacingly in the moonlight. Yet his face was one of the most beautiful I’d ever seen.
Almost as alluring as Melek’s features. Except this male’s bone structure and jawline were harsher in nature. Lethal, even.
Melek possessed softer qualities. Quite similar to—
Hold on… Is that…?
Holy shit.My lips parted.Melek.
He stood right beside the armored male.
His blondish-brown hair was styled messily in an artful sort of way, the strands dancing in the breeze against his ears as he surveyed the crowd with a slight twist of his full mouth.A smile. Because he was amused.
And as the hush of tittering responses met my ear, I understood why.
The females around me were losing their senses over the two gorgeous males on the platform, whispers of “King Lucifer” and “Prince Melek” warming the air around me.
